Do you believe there is an indoctrination meeting with all new senators/congressmen?

Or whatever you might call it.

Where they sit them down and say, here’s how it really works here.

Do this, say this, vote like this, etc?

And if so, is this enforced by threats, blackmail, or are they so convincing that people fall in line?

We see it time after time, the enthusiastic conservatives don’t last long. They become GOPe almost immediately.

Just curious about the machinations of how this occurs.

Or is it just human nature, that people fall in line, especially if it plays into their greed and power goals?

No.

They get elected because they're already in on it. The rest is theater.

Rush Limbaugh talked to newly elected GOP members in Congress.

I don’t believe this. There are plenty that have never been in politics that get elected, from farmers to doctors.

But they all change, almost without fail.

I believe the elite dig into every candidate for a seat in Washington. For some, its easy - they cheat on their taxes or their wife, they are easy to buy off, etc. For others, a couple weeks in DC and they are sleeping with honeypots and eating the finest dinners. For a select few, proof has to be manufactured, but the media will comply with a lie.

But everyone complies.

They either change, they leave or they're relegated to the Committee on Committees. They're never given power.

For those of us old enough to remember the freshman 92 class they openly discussed "the talk" and how disgusted they were by it.

Yes it probably goes something like that. A lot of people at the top will have to be taken out for change to occur and that will never happen. The problem is that we are decent people and they are not.

They are generally career politicians and most of them never actually cared about whatever nonsense they had to spout to get elected the first time.

Then, once in office, it doesn't really make sense to follow through on campaign promises to voters when you're going to get power (and reelected indefinitely) by doing whatever the party and big money donors tell you.

But voters will keep voting by party instead of for candidates that might actually represent their interests, so nothing will ever change.

Not sure, but somehow, by conversation or observation, they figure out they can become millionaires. And most all of them take advantage.

Figure out who shows them how to become millionaires and you’ll figure out who pulls the strings.

I don’t think it’s anything more than most members of congress and the senate never made a lick at a snake at anything before and were just good bullshitters, came from the right family, or both, used that to get elected, and therefore have no problem selling out. Another part of them, I think, go there with legitimately the best of intentions and prepared to do work for their constituents and then fall into the pit of corruption when they come to the realization of how things are in D.C. and that they can create generational wealth with their family never having to want for anything ever again by just saying “yes” or “no” to the right things. Even the most upstanding of us will do what needs to be done when it comes to making sure ours are taken care of.

yes 100%

the conversation goes like this,

do what we say, and vote like you are told, and we will make sure you get regularly delivered suitcases full of case, you will have millions by the time the next election comes, and we help you get re-elected.

if you dont, no one will give you any power or let you get anything done and we make sure you lose your next election.

thats a tough choice to make isnt it?
