The Mrs. and I were shopping for a Tahoe yesterday and were quoted an extra 5K over MRSP for "market conditions".

#1- I am not paying this and will wait this out if needed.

#2- Has anyone bought a vehicle in the last 6 months for straight up MRSP? It hurts me to pay MRSP BTW. I am 56 and never have paid that once in all my car buying through the years.

Let's go Brandon!

I bought a new SUV with a slight discount from MSRP in March of 2021. By May, that would have been impossible. I got completely lucky on the timing of this.

I think you might want to try to wait before buying a new vehicle.

I wouldn't buy a vehicle right now unless I had to. I'd wait for the market to settle back into normal conditions.

I bought an Expedition last week for MSRP. There was an added "delivery fee" though. Also got $1k off and 0% financing as incentives.

Dealers aren’t negotiating on shite right now. I bought a BMW X3 for the wife a couple months back and they opened at MSRP-1k and wouldn’t budge. Buddy bought his wife a MDX last week and they said MSRP or go away.

Wait it out if you can. But I’d bet the market stays stupid like this for at least another two years.

So were we; we told the GM to remove that so we could start negotiations. He immediately removed it.

I bought a new 2021 Silverado 2500 LT gas burner in July. MSPR was 53K. I had a GM supplier 5% discount along with a $1000 costco rebate. Dealer applied both. Bought Truck for 49500. Got 49500 for my 2020 Sierra 1500 SLT. Paid no sales tax. Was a great deal in this environment.

Some of the dealers I spoke with wouldn't accept any of the GM supplier or costco rebates.

I needed a new truck, and was looking at the new Nissan Frontier as a cheap option. Not only was it hard to find a dealership that actually had the truck, they were all tacking on 5-10k markup for the same reason you said: Market Conditions.

frick that.

I happened upon a used Ram 1500 for a really good price that I couldn't pass up. Scooped that truck up the day I saw the advertisement.

Find another dealer, while items may be advertised, I ordered a new truck at msrp.. minus a private offer... I however got $7,000 more then i paid for my 2019 with close to 75k on it...market is strange...

In February 2021 I bought an F150 for 10k less than MSRP.

Could sell it today for more than paid with 10k miles. Crazy market!

How long can you wait? Do you have to have a vehicle soon? Are you willing to wait till the market goes back to normal which may be a while?

In this market wait as long as you can. Inventory issues will eventually sort themselves out with enough time, but it may be a few years.

Got a 4Runner TRD in April for about $2500 off MSRP. Very different market today than 6 months ago though. That same dealership has only a few cars on their lot right now.

Driving by the dealerships in my area is amazing. The smaller GMC dealer has about 4 vehicle's on the lot. The Toyota dealership which is a huge Penske operation had maybe 30 vehicles out of probably 300 spots. Nobody has much inventory.

Purchasing a vehicle wont go back to normal until all those dealerships fill back up with inventory.
