First Post - Seeking Family Advice

Although I have lurked for a long time, this is my first post. The time has come…I need some feedback/advice from the OT.
I have an older sibling (early 60’s) who lives several states away and posts some extremely inflammatory political diatribes on FB. (I don’t have a FB account but my wife and kids show me the posts - I don’t see all of them, but they show me the really outrageous ones). I almost always disagree with his positions on the merits, but that doesn’t really bother me too much since I have a lot of friends and colleagues with different views. However, he doesn’t just criticize political figures or policies… he makes really vicious and condescending personal attacks against supporters of the opposing party. And while he doesn’t single us out by name, it is clear my family and I fit squarely in the group that he routinely trashes, calls names, etc.
The other day he posts a picture of our Dad (who passed away in 2011) on the anniversary of his death. My wife shows me the picture thinking it was some type of sentimental tribute… then we read the caption which says something like “Sorry that you are gone but I am actually glad that you aren’t here to see what a joke our country has become…”. I miss my Dad so much and I am so pissed that he reduced my Dad to a stupid political prop on FB.
I have never challenged him about this or any of his other stupid posts. I'm a pretty easy going guy, but this really burns me up every time I think about it and I can't seem to let go. What should I do? Keep quiet and just fume inside? Confront him and let him know what a dick move it was? Would appreciate any thoughts or advice.

Your family needs to block him on FB

Call him up and tell him to keep your father’s name out of his politics before his alligator mouth overloads his hummingbird arse.

Whip his arse. It’s the only way people like him will ever learn

He's entitled to his opinion. I'd let him know privately, that you are insulted by his posts and take them personally. If he doesn't modify his behavior, or at least assure you that he's not referencing you, then you need to recognize that you aren't as important to him as his political affiliation.

Sounds like you are overreacting.
He is entitled to his opinions just the same as you are.

Quit giving him an audience. Have your family defriend him on FB. Remember you me father as you choose to. Done.
I’m just not sure why people let FB rattle their cage so much. People should realize it’s a voluntary activity and you even get to pick your (FB) friends. No one makes you look at FB. No one makes you befriend your own brother.

It's his dad too.
It sucks for you to see him using your father's image, but he is using his father's image.
Imagine him telling you that your silence isn't what your father would have wanted. Or telling you not to memorialize your father how you choose (donating to a charity in his name).

Call him up and ask him to meet you for lunch one day at Sonic...you know the rest.

If he is 60 and doesn't realize by now his behavior is in bad form, he isn't likely to change.
You should ask your wife to either "un-friend" him or to not pass along his posts that are inflammatory towards you.
I will say this though. After watching that half-time performance tonight during the game, your brother may not be all the way wrong.

Not an alter. When I was trying to come up with a user name the first thing that popped into my head was a line from a Tubes song. Strange, I know...but I went with it

You watch the game tonight?

Early 60s? Go break that sum bitch’s hip.

Is he a trumpkin or a snowflake?

Be careful driving home, Walt. Let me know if you need a ride.

I've never been on Facebook, don't know what it looks like or how it works.
I do know that I have as much use for it as a can of diarrhea. Aren't there enough real distractions in life? Why create more on your computer?
