Only way to afford it given wages vs housing prices. I feel America isn’t far off. Average household income is 70k and average house is well over 400k. This isn’t sustainable. Grandparents and parents all under one roof going forward

The don’t really do it out of financial necessity as much as they actually respect their elders and believe in a close family.

Some of those beliefs have been lost in America.

Not anymore. I visited Asia recently and the average wage was 12k US but the house average was 300k. This was Thailand Bangkok

"Asia" is a big place so that's painting with a broad brush. You're telling me you are aware of the average wages and housing prices in all 48 Asian countries?

It will be the norm moving forward.
Globalization will bring us down.
A lot of people only looked at short term benefits.
"Oh look, we can buy a hammer cheaper if it's produced in China."
Didn't think of the long term consequences of exporting jobs that paid decently.
It can't be stopped now. Your children will have a lower standard of living than you enjoyed.

My son last night arguing for a gap year before college: white Americans are the only demographic that kick their kids out at 18 and make them work full time if they aren’t enrolled in college.

My husbands immediate response: white Americans are the only demographic that won’t move in with you and bring your in-laws when we are old.

That's already how it is in much of ATL. Nice big suburban house, 8 cars on the street and driveway. Grandparents, Parents, Children. And it's not because the grandparents are infirmed.

We could use more family in America. Not always a bad thing.

There's a house a few doors down from me that's had three generations of a family living in it since the 2016 flood. We had three generations in our house when my mother was alive until very recently. It's definitely happening.

This and Asia is wayyy bigger and more diverse in culture than Thailand...

I'm sure you wanted to make more of a comment on current conditions here in the USA, but cultures in Asia are very different compared to majority here

...that's one of the few things that I wish were more common.

America started to really mess up when the elderly stopped helping with child rearing.

As annoying as my mother in law can be. It makes more sense for these older women to be helping with their grandchildren inside and the grandfathers to be helping with them outside.

I don't care who happens to be at the house, if we decide to go at it, nothing is stopping that.

That's only at the beginning. After a few years, the visits are less frequent.
