The OT won't like this since their drivers have to take Florida Blvd now to bring them to their Old Goodwood/Bocage homes from their highly important downtown offices.

The Government Street road diet, which made the busy thoroughfare more pedestrian and bike-friendly, has led to increased revenue growth at local businesses and reduced the number of traffic incidents on the street, according a new report from the Baton Rouge Area Chamber.
Sales tax revenue at businesses along Government Street was up 34% between 2016 and 2022, according to BRAC. Citywide sales tax revenues rose by 27% over the same period. Through May, Government Street businesses had collected 44% of the sales tax revenues from 2022, compared to a 40% collection from citywide businesses.
Traffic counts on Government Street were 12% higher in 2022 than they were in 2017, while the number of traffic incidents has dropped from about 46 a month in 2016 to 19 a month in 2023.

Meanwhile, all the other surface streets and interstates are inundated with stop and go traffic.
Good job, BR

Traffic is higher. Which is a no shite. These idiots went from 4 lanes to 2.
Traffic incidents are lower because people aren’t trying to turn across a 4 lane road with no turn lane anymore.

flowerbeds still look like sh*t. probably need to be called weed beds.
like a previous poster said, you went from four lanes with no turning lane to two lanes with a turning lane. it's common sense that the accident numbers would reduce.

It's not. It's about the same as it ever was.

It's likely because people in cars avoid it like the plague.

Government Street looks better but it didn’t help the neighborhood. It’s ok during the day but at night it’s sketchy

Careful.
This board hates the concept of pedestrian friendly zones.
People who never ever go to the French Quarter FREAKED at the very mention of making it more pedestrian friendly.

No one hates this but the only pedestrians that use government regularly are homeless. There is no shade and walking/riding on government is hot as frick 9 months out of the year.

Yeah because the french quarter and one of the only major east-west corridors in BR are comparable.

15-minute city, y'all, one major street at a time.

You are optimistic if you think that project starts in the next 4 years.
