Now you won't know who's a fatty and who's not.

quote:

As a new age of weight-loss therapeutics dawns, heralded by the likes of semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy), scientists are one step closer to creating a drug that can coax muscles into behaving as if they’ve just been put through a vigorous workout. Known as exercise mimetics, this proposed class of drugs essentially ‘mimics’ the benefits of exercise, triggering a mechanism that supercharges fat metabolism and encourages lean muscle mass.

"This compound is basically telling skeletal muscle to make the same changes you see during endurance training," said lead author Thomas Burris, professor of pharmacy at the University of Florida.

A whole new breed of jort-wearing, Tom Petty-listening, Gatorade-drinking, and muscle mimicking-taking Florida fans on the horizon.

As if The Swamp wasn't bad enough...

I remember well the feeling I had when we reached the point in time when no human could be beat a computer at chess. It was a feeling of real loss, a feeling that the romance of the game was gone.

This gives me a similar feeling.

I’m neither an avid chess player nor a workout warrior, but both these developments make me sad. Just hook us all up to a feeding tube and flesh light and call it a day.

If we can't trust Big Pharma, who can we trust really?

My question is what does it do for people who are ALREADY high level athletes that work out constantly?

Would it be a game changer for them?

Because we could see some serious shite in the NFL, NBA, and Olympics

Would you rather subsidize their fat life style with heart medication, joint surgeries, etc. for decades or just pay for a pill that makes them not fat.

These drugs will have to cost a ton though because big pharma will be losing big time on the back end with people not having complications from being fat.

It sounds like it would hurt. At least with exercise you can stop or slow down if the feedback from your muscles is complaining too much. This med might make you feel like you're on a weight machine and can't get off.

I’d rather people take some kind of responsibility for their own health and not rely on big pharma to fix their problems.

I already think if you are over a certain BMI, you should have to pay more since it’s something like $150B annually spent in medical costs for a completely curable / controllable “disease”
