After my friend got hit with a lawsuit today after getting in a wreck with no witnesses, I’m debating getting one. They guy that hit him ran a light apparently.
They’re going above the $50k threshold and not the instant under 50 settlement.

From what little I found they are not admissible in court ?

Does anyone recommend a brand ? Thx.

Why are dash cameras not admissible in court? Even if they are not. Possession and utilization of them are not illegal

Yes they’re legal. And unless there is some special Louisiana statute or rule I don’t know about, the footage should be as admissible as any other photographic or video evidence.

I don’t believe you. If it was at an intersection I’d put money there’s tons of cameras around that caught it as well as witnesses

I believe video footage of a wreck would be admissible anywhere. If you get one, better be damn sure you don’t screw up, as they can surely be used as evidence against you as well.

I have one. As for admissible in court I imagine they are. If not no ambulance chaser is going to waste time after seeing clear video evidence.

I am looking into dash cams as well. I haven’t found any that are good, even the highest rated. My son got hit by another driver and the lady cop got the report completely wrong. She has my son at fault and won’t amend the report even though the damage to the vehicles is physically impossible to happen the way she listed in the accident report. Thanks a lot Mandeville Police Dept

Wtf are you even talking about?

They are certainly admissible if authenticated by the owner.

There are lots of red-light intersections with no cameras around, even if it is the exception.

They are legal. I see them used in court all the time. Having video would also likely prevent a lawsuit anyway by showing incontrovertible evidence. Many brands are good. Get one that will have access to an app on your phone for quick access

The only way a normal person is going to get any of that available footage is by subpoena. And by the time you get it the footage has been deleted.

For minor to moderate accidents the responding officers are not going to get that footage either. If it’s a questionable major accident with fatalities then the police sometimes bring in accident scene investigators who may be able to obtain camera footage, but there is far less of it than you think. Most cameras are from local businesses. Local businesses aren’t spending extra money to have camera that show the street. Their cameras are normally cover their doors and parking lot.

Well if you’re talking about destroying evidence, then that will very much be used against you. If you have a camera and are in a wreck, you will be obligated to produce the footage.
