LINK
Lots of interesting information in the link. Whitman County, Washington grew by 10% due to Washington State students returning back to campus after the pandemic.
St. John the Baptist, Plaquemines, Terrebonne, and St. Charles were in the top 10 for population losses by percentage.

Little to no jobs, crime, bad roads, weather, bad/underfunded schools.

Looks like my parish is still trending upwards.
ETA: if my parish trends like the rest of the state in the future, I'll be on my way as well.

Grew up in Baton Rouge and never considered leaving.
Then I got married and work moved us away. I've lived in Oklahoma, Dallas, and Houston.
No way in hell I'd move back to LA. Glad to be from there, no interest in living there.

Of all the problems that Louisiana has, I'm convinced that #1 is Brain Drain. Folks get a degree and bail. It’s a cycle. Uneducated workforce doesn’t attract investment, the educated workforce leaves.

You mean nobody wants to live in cancer alley or have to rebuild their home every 5 years? Color me shocked

It was a big topic when I was at LSU in the 90s so obviously they haven't figured it out yet

Add sorry political leadership. Number one reason for the issues you listed.

TOPS is the problem no one wants to address. Smart kids gets their free education & leave. In addition to tightening up the requirements, there should be a post-graduation residency requirement or you have to pay it back.
