In D/FW we're seeing people fleeing Tarrant and Dallas and going out to Kaufman, Collin, Denton, Parker, and Johnson Counties.

Stop with the lies.

Some legislator's brother in law who runs a "non-profit" got a government contract with that money!! Does that not count?

I live in St Charles Parish...and it ain't the crime driving people out. It's Ida. There are still people in my neighborhood living out of trailers. Following Katrina, the population in SCP actually rose because people were looking for habitable homes while their storm damaged residences to the east were repaired. We were hit pretty hard by Ida, I figure we were about 8 miles from where the center passed. I get why no one wants to go through that shite again.

Yup. All the parishes listed were all hammered by Ida. I’m sure the crime, taxes, etc didn’t help but Ida was the real spark.

LA does need to do something to keep talent and brains here though. I know we’ve seen growth in the industrial and medical sectors but we need more.

Aren't people living along the coast having trouble getting homeowners insurance?

That is happening, yes. But also, a lot of Texans are moving north of the Red and buying land in Oklahoma. I'm not thrilled about it, to be honest.

We don't want your cookie cutter subdivisions and your white guilt liberalism. Don't Texas my Oklahoma.

Houma is straight trash now. It seems like it is dying a slow death. No wonder people are leaving TBonne.

There is something similar about the places in the South that gained population. Can’t quite put a finger on it

Mandeville, LA
Coastal, MS
Fayetteville/ NW, AR

Extreme auto, homeowners and flood insurance rates.

I bet less than 50% of the eligible LA population have proper insurance if any, and another 25% of the total population try to use insurance as a lottery win.

The decline is because Louisiana is stagnant. No new jobs, industry, or incentives. No white collar jobs, no fortune 500 companies and no one perusing any.

The voters of Louisiana suck

If you accept a TOPs scholarship, you should be required to work in Louisiana for a set amount of time or a % of your check returned to the state if you leave Louisiana. Consider it a 0% interest loan

I’m torn on this.

Yes, the ROI is terrible, but the problem is jobs. I grew up in BR and got a finance degree from LSU. We wanted to stay close to family but there was precious little there in terms of entry level jobs, much less anything to build a career on.

Contrast this to my daughter. She’s a freshman at Kennesaw and getting HOPE. When she’s done in three years, odds are she’s staying in the ATL metro area because she can actually work here.
