Insurance companies may have to junk your car if your EVs are damaged in a accident

For many electric vehicles, there is no way to repair or assess even slightly damaged battery packs after accidents, forcing insurance companies to write off cars with few miles - leading to higher premiums and undercutting gains from going electric.
While some automakers like Ford Motor Co and General Motors Co said they have made battery packs easier to repair, Tesla Inc has taken the opposite tack with its Texas-built Model Y, whose new structural battery pack has been described by experts as having "zero repairability."

For electric to go truly mainstream we need standardized modular batteries. Oh, and a huge adoption of nuclear power.

I've watched my RC models plow into the ground and the lithium battery turns into an instant inferno. Not rushing out to buy an ev

Rare earth battery materials are scarce comparatively speaking.
Cobalt mining in Africa is horrific.
Green electricity is miniscule.
This whole EV push is crazy and nearly antithetical to the environmental agenda.
The only silver lining is the technical advancements being made in battery density and power.
Specifically in solid state geometry and materials.

Nobody seems to have problems eith their cell phones, cordless tools, etc. EVs haven't come close to the amount used they have yet

Shocking turn from ICE vehicles that have never had to be junked due to accident.

miles means nothing on electric cars, there is no engine so there is no engine or drivetrain wear.
the only thing that matter with electric cars is the manufacture date of the battery, thats 60% of the cars total cost

I have zero desire to buy an EV.
But they might be practical for short trips to Wmt, physicians office or take out.
Useless for road trips.
Having said that I those freaks that deliberately block charging stations are morons.

At some point it is going to dawn on people just how impractical and destructive it will be to move to widespread use of EVs.

Bro you're in Louisiana and bitching about high premiums? Baw you need to hit up Gumbo PAC. That's the baws blocking legislative change to Louisiana's amberlance chasing attorneys getting you a hunnit tousant dollaz fo yo axxident. You over here worried about EVs but need to be worried about them gumbo baws
If anything, the article speaks to insurance companies needing to be agile in an evolving market. Did we just do away with manufacturing technologies back in the day bc we wanted to keep knitting sweaters?

What happens when your cell phone has issues? Do you fix it or buy a new phone?

Stop point out issues like this with EVs and do what you’re told.

Wait. So they’re more expensive, fragile, and aren’t any more environmentally friendly until well later In their life cycle?

This isn't from fender benders. This is the type of damage that would noodle a frame on most vehicles.

Actually it is. I’ve seen quite a few on the Tesla Reddit subs complaining how their (what we consider) mildly damaged cars are totaled by insurance. It’s not just the battery that’s the issue. Many of the frame parts are extremely expensive to repair, so insurance doesn’t want to deal with it. The premium on my model 3 is about 20% higher than my Cayenne. I was a bit surprised when I first saw this, but I understand why.
EVs are still in their infancy stage. We are not ready for mass adoption. Yes I save a lot of money compared to our minivan we traded in, but there are known risks involved with owning this car. We love it, but we are aware of its limitations and accept that.
