Or is the interest not there?

A bunch of decent teams miss out on the NCAA tourney every year.

College basketball has the NIT.

College football has the pre-New Years Eve bowl games.

Could college baseball have a secondary tourney?

Not many people watch the real tournament. I doubt a lesser version would work.

Barely anyone cares about the main tournament as it is.

There is barely any interest in the actual tournament nationwide

It’s not. It’s easy to think this way as an LSU baseball fan, but I doubt that you’d pull much more than players’ family and friends in to an NIT-style baseball postseason tournament.

Does anyone watch the NIT?

Does anyone watch the Poulan Weedeater Bowl or the Taxslayer Cheetos Nabisco Bowl?

These things exist too, ya know LOL

I think theres some college baseball teams and fan bases that would still watch.

Just a thought

I'm a huge college baseball fan and one of my favorite few days on the sports calendar is coming up this weekend.

But I would kill myself before watching UCSB play Charlotte in a baseball NIT.

frick no. If a team isn't good enough to be in a 64 team tournament, it's time for them to be done foe the season.

With how volatile pitchers arms are, why would any pitcher want to risk pitching in a meaningless competition and risk serious injury that could change the trajectory of their career? Why would any coach want to pitch one of their promising underclassmen and risk them blowing out their arm?

A baseball "NIT" wouldn't get a TV deal so it wouldn't come close to those.

Not really.

No. With the draft just a couple months away, any pitcher eligible for the draft will leave and shut down their arm until the draft. Also, the Cape starts in just 10 days and Im sure other college summer leagues start around the same date, so those guys will be gone for that because getting seen in front of hundreds of scouts is much more important than a plan b tournament.

College baseball is a niche sport. About 15 people nationwide would watch a college baseball NIT

This board grossly overestimates the popularity of college baseball nationwide.

Some of the pitching is gonna be cringe enough in the big tournament, man just think how bad it would be with teams who couldnt make the first 64.

Agree. Same for basketball.

And while I do enjoy having a different college football game on the TV pretty much every day of the week during bowl season, bowl games probably should be limited to 32 as well. Facilitate the Top 64 teams to have a post season game, like in basketball, baseball and softball.
