5 Reasons why all u JD5 Haters can STFU. He was EXACTLY what we needed in 2022.

I know facts and stats don’t matter to some of you rantards but how quickly we forget:
1. This was a team that a few months before the season had 39 scholarship players and a WR playing QB in a bowl game. It literally was put together with the transfer portal and duck tape
2. Oline and running game were shitee…especially early in the season. If there EVER was a season that we needed a dual threat QB….this was it.
3. The “JD5 can’t throw the ball” narrative is FALSE. Did he frustratingly hold on to the ball too long early in the season - yes. But the guy ended up with 2774 passing yds. Only 4 QBs in LSU history have thrown for over 3000 (Joey B, Rohan, Mett, and Jamarcus). Imagine what he could have done with more practice time (or prior season games) with the new WRs and Coaches. Plus…Had he not had several drops or sat out games and entire halves bc of either injury or leads, he very well could have been the 5th player to throw for 3K+. (Btw…JB9 threw for abt 2800 yds in his 1st season with way better WR talent and I don’t remember any “JB9 can’t throw” threads).
4. Related to #2…when Oline sucks, you need a QB who can move. JD5 delivered on that. 818 Rushing yds - highest of any SEC QB and his 3592 Total Offense yards is the 2nd highest single season total in LSU history. (#1 is Joey B in 2019 of course with a ridiculous 6039 yds ttl offense). But no other LSU QB has come close.
5. Comparing to 2 other Best SEC Bs in 2022. (Attempts, Completion%):
Bryce Young (359, 64.1%)
Stetson Bennett (395, 68.1%)
Jayden Daniels (371, 68.5%)
So JD5 threw the ball just as much as BY and SB AND had a better completion% than both. (Yes BY was injured but so was JD). Haven't heard anyone on here say BY or SB can't throw.
Does ANYONE on here seriously think we exceed all expectations in BKs yr 1, beat Bama, and Win the Sec W. With any other QB in that room?!? NO. I for one am excited to see what this team is going to do with a "rebuilding" season under their belts. Of course, teams will also now have a whole season's worth of tape to prepare for JD5 so it's not going to get easier but I like our chances.

The fact that we had such a young OL, Daniels is the exact QB we needed.
Anyone who thinks JD isn't a good QB is an idiot and really just don't know the game.

Why the heck did you even waste your time with this? I applaud you! That being said, You gotta understand who you’re dealing with here… Think “ wrong turn “ or “deliverance”.

Compare rush attempts by esch qb too... and compare his rushing td vs passing td for each year he has played...there is a trend

JD5 finished 45th in passing yards and tied for 69th in passing TDs
In 9 SEC games he had 10 passing TDs, 3 INTs, and took 33 sacks

When you consider how many teams there are and factor in what he brought with his legs this is obviously a solid contribution.

How many times did the other two throw the ball away to help the team versus holding it and making their completion % numbers look better?

I can give you 1 reason why he is the QB we needed. He got us to the mother fricking sec championship. Beat saban in his first start. We competed for a spot in the playoffs. I’m sorry I’m what world can a Qb do all these things and still suck, the lsu fans that hate him are just miserable people who expect to have a QB who is a heisman winner throws for 65 touchdowns in a season and is “the best quarterback to ever put on a lsu football jersey”. Those are the fans you are referring to

While I am certain you are correct that those numbers will clearly favor the other two I have a question, where are those stats compiled since you seem to have absolute data on this?

Of course, the discourse and banter is why many are on TD to begin with. To each their own in what they believe.
But that’s not what happens in this case is it? People go out of their way to say he “sucks”, or some even wish him ill will or hurl various insults at a QB that took over a difficult situation and did what exactly? Beat Bama in an instant classic and led us to the SECCG. Not a whole ton of LSU QBs that can say that in the last 15 years are there?
There’s disagreement and there’s being a sore son of a bitch and low class. Big difference.

I would also like to add that we had to complement a defense that lacked depth, particularly in the front 7. We could not afford to have an offense that couldn’t run the ball or turn the ball over forcing the defense out there more often.

Stetson Bennett actually had the most throws behind the line of a scrimmage or less than 5 yards down the field in the SEC.

I love this narrative from people who blindly look at his stats and apparently didn’t watch him play in real life. When your wide receivers are open on an island 20 times a game and you completely miss them, you’re not a good QB. Sorry

You can’t win the sec west if you aren’t a good QB sorry

Only fact I need is one half of garbage time football by Nussmeyers!

Running quarterbacks are not necessarily better with bad OL’s. This myth needs to die. Running quart backs take more sacks.

Max threw for 2815 yds 27 Tds vs 6 INTs last season with a worse OL and Jake Peetz as a first time play caller.
I'm not down on JD, but he has limitations as a passer that hopefully can improve over the offseason. Almost the entire offense is intact minus Boutte and we add some more quality prospects.
Watching Florida get destroyed by Oregon St, Arkansas give up 500 yds passing and 5 TDs to Kansas and Ole Miss get romped by a 7-5 Texas Tech team puts some perspective on this season. A win is a win, but as it stands the only signature win of the season is Bama. I wouldn't consider beating 6-7 Florida or an Ole Miss team that has lost 4 in a row as major achievements.
The good news is going into 2023 everyone looks beatable. There are no elite SEC teams right now outside of UGA.
