Great point. aTm is bolting regardless, and I think it will only help their program over the long term, and hurt UT's, assuming the SEC continues its on the field dominance as of late.

Texas has definitely backed itself into a corner over a measely $15mil per year (hell, it's not even that much yet).

Yes, But think of it this way. If ESPN can't enough media to cover for the network they are screwed anyways. Who is going to watch Vollyball, Softball, and Soccer while having to pay for it.

There has to be some kind of clause stating what ESPN is allowed to cover in the contract. Surely ESPN isn't stupid enough to pay that kind of money for something that no one in their right mind would watch.

New Mexico? Please

Just throwing random names out there. I don't think Texas wants to recreate the SWC, so I don't think Houston, Rice, etc., would be a consideration. Could be anybody. Memphis would be big for basketball. West Virginia? Cincy?

This will always be remembered. Bank on it. Why? Texas A & M opened the Texas TV market to the SEC. I think, in the long run, this will always be a thorn in UTexas' side, especially as some of that talent migrates to the SEC when the SEC Network will be sitting in all those Texas tv sets.

A & M really punked Texas.

Beebe must of told A & M to shut up and be glad we are allowing you to stay in the Big 12, and A & M did shut up....right after they exited the building.

Don't forget the recent loss of Colorado also. I know they weren't very strong in athletics but they are the main university in the state.

True. Colorado has a good football tradition that is on tough times now. And the Denver TV market.

Agreed 100%. This, no matter what happens, will hurt UT more in the long run than anything. All those prized athletes they get will be seeing the possibilities of playing for all the SEC schools, which will now include one right in their backyard.

I don't doubt it.

Statements leaked to the press were that Beebe told A&M that they would survive losing them, so A&M left.

Beebe then removed the shite from his pants and called the SEC to let them know that they were calling backsies on the agreement not to sue over A&M entering the league.

I've gained more respect for A&M out of this whole fiasco than anything. Basically they finally got tired of bowing down to UT, told Beebee and the rest of the Big 12 to go F themselves. Nice move IMO...

That is a powerful article. OU is calling Texas and its puppet Beebe out!

When the Big 12 formed, Texas wanted Swarbrick, the current ND AD, to get the job. Ou wanted Beebe and won out.

Dan Wetzel beating his chest on how said Beebe killed the Big 12 by not endorsing a playoff:

quote:

My column from June 2010 on how Beebe killed the B12
quote:

Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe all but killed his own conference on April 30, 2008.

That’s when he decided to team up with the Big Ten and Pac-10 to reject a four-team playoff being pushed by the SEC and ACC.
quote:

That would have solved all the monetary concerns that have left the Big 12 on the verge of collapse at the hands of its one-time allies, the Big Ten ...Jim Delany admitted to Congress a 16-team playoff could gross...about $900 million annually.

He opposed it anyway. Beebe and the others never seemed to ask why. They’re finding out now.
quote:

It’s clear now that Delany used opposition to a football playoff...to starve out the Big 12...of the hundreds of millions a playoff would’ve given them and thus turn the future of college sports into a battle of television sets...the Big Ten will always dominate if everything boils down to TV revenue.
quote:

Am I being too hard on Beebe? Not even close. He’s been played like a fiddle....

“I expect that Jim, who I have known for many, many years and trust implicitly, [will] do what he said he’s going to do,” Beebe said. “If and when the time comes that they’re going to do anything – and if that includes any of the institutions in the Big 12 – he’ll let me know first.” This week the Columbus Dispatch printed emails between Delany and Ohio State president Gordon Gee that detailed Gee reaching out to the University of Texas to broach interest about the Big Ten.

So much for Mr. “Trust Implicitly.”

cliff notes are: Beebe got played like a bitch by Big ten commish Jim Delaney and is responsible for the Big 12's current sittuation.

The article covers that, see below. That doesn't mean allegiances can't change. Also, I don't think anyone is suggesting that Beebe PERSONALLY is in the bag for Texas. I think the logic is that he thought pacifying Texas was best for the conference. He was wrong.

quote:

Ironically, the source said, Texas supported another candidate for commissioner four years ago, when Beebe was hired, while OU supported Beebe.

The significance of this article is that is clearly shows that OU won't put up with the LHN in the Big 12

They have to. Schools in the Big 12 have a right to their 3rd tier rights. OU voted for this and tried (& failed) to have their own network kick off this past fall.

quote:

Why can't Texas just agree to equal revenue sharing? frick them.

EVERYONE in the conference, including A&M and OU, voted for this method of revenue sharing. In many years, OU made the most in TV revenue from the conference.

Texas will do just fine in recruiting.

Don't kid yourself. It's Texas' ego as much as the $$$. Texas makes more money than they need, but their ego is insatiable.
