Come on OU, keep the Big 12 together so Mizzou can stay and play KU and KSU every year.

What DID you read giving you that impression?

Just a feeling. I don't think moving to the PAC is a slam dunk as long as the OSUs and TTs are attached. This seems like a last ditch effort to salvage face. Could be totally sincere, however, I'm not convinced.

The Pac 12 doesn't want to just add; word is they still might not be taking Oklahoma unless Texas is part of the deal...that's exactly how it was last year when we went through all of this...why would it change?

Pac 12 still kicks everyone's butt in the TV deal and they have said they'd prefer to keep the status-quo and salvage the Big 12. I think OU is hearing that they might need to go crawling back to the Big 12 and they're trying to bluff and get the best deal possible.

Texas will never join the Pac 12...for this simple reason as mentioned at CFN:

quote:

It's being lost on Texas and blown off by Oklahoma that they wouldn't be-all-end-all of a Pac-16. It might be too big an ego drop to simply be a part of a conference after living life as the anchor of the Big 12, and that's part of the reason why Mack Brown is saying that Texas should stay put.

A&M (& OU) voted for schools to do what they wanted with their 3rd tier rights. Is Beebe to be blamed for how you guys voted?

Certainly. First, just because something is allowed does not mean it cannot be abused. Secondly, if other member institutions are coming out and voicing their concerns, or going so far as leaving/threatening to, then you would expect the leader of the conference to work towards a solution.

quote:

......and those concerns were ALL decided in the favor of A&M, not Texas. No HS games or highlights have or will be shown. Conf members can't be shown unless they agree to it. In fact, Dodds said he would promise never to show a conf member, even with their approval, if that would keep A&M in the conference. Still, that wasn't good enough.

First, you're going to have to provide a link if you are going to say that Dodds said he would never show a conference game on the LHN to keep A&M because I aint buying it.
Second, what happened the moment the NCAA decided HS games would not be shown on LHN? They announced HS game highlights would. The NCAA had to reaffirm their decision to make it clear it was a violation.

The fact that something that obviously crosses the line on ethics has to go all the way up to the NCAA to get Texas/ESPN to back down sets a bad precedent. Its an obvious smack in the face to every other college football program. Sure it worked in our favor, but it wasn't like you guys came to a compromise. You settled because you had to. According to our AD, the HS issue and the showing of conference games were not something discussed when the LHN was first talked about.

Combining all these things, A&M had a choice to say, you know what big12, go shove it up your arse. We can join the best conference in the land, why should we put up with your shite any longer?
Everything is second rate. Leadership, TV deals, conference camraderie, everything.

NU and CU were smart enough to realize the grass is certainly greener elsewhere, A&M and now OU a year later are realizing the same thing.

This will not be the case when the SEC renegotiates IMO.

Does anybody else think that OU just came up with a list of demands that they knew would never get done so they don't look like they are at fault for destroying the Big 12 and can move to the PAC with a clean conscience?

It has been 4 years since I have posted, call me a lurker, or maybe there has been all to often highly intelligent conversations that need nothing added to diminish their IQ level.
I agree 90% with Falcon.
I also listened to finebaum today. Granted, it is for the most part a good ole backwater Alabamer pissing match. But the caller today was different. His story was too authentic. After he hung up, and as I let his story sink in, it all made sense.

For too long, I've been thinking, "We are the Freakin SEC. There is no way we are going to sit back and watch these lesser conferences cherry-pick their way to our status while we sit back and only take soon to be homeless schools who add little to nothing to the SEC." I'm not going to name schools, but there have been a few names that have been thrown out that make you think, "And why are we expanding again??????"
Falcon, No doubt, OU has clearly made demands that OU knows cannot and will not be delivered. I laughed when I heard them and thought the exact same thing. But OU to the PAC tit is a forest. OU talked to them so they could come back to the big 12-2-1 and say this system and this commish sucks. Change it all; knowing it's not going to happen.
OU also knows that playing in the PACeasy doesn't make sense for them. #1, Texass may end up there, and OU's goal is to distance itself from Texass. #2, OU, along with OSU, Mizzou and aTm makes Texass look like an idiot standing by itself if the other 4 bolt to a conference that won't take Texass, leaving Texass little leverage to join another conference. Granted, they would be able to get into another conference, but would have to make concessions because they have been left out in the cold and lost their hollier than thow status.
So where does that put OU??? SEC!!!! What better recruiting tool for OU, OSU & aTm to use against Texass than to say, "If your son comes here, you'll be able to watch a majority of his conferences games only car drive away. And he'll be playing SEC ball. If your boy goes to Texass, I hope you have accumulated quite a few frequent flier miles for those trips to Washington, Oregon and Colorado.
Finally, Slive's silence has been too eery. Either he's a lazy idiot, or a very smart attorney who cut his deal long ago and is letting OU, OSU are flirt with the PAC to support the fact that the SEC is not tampering. I'm hoping it's the ladder.
OU, OSU, Mizzou, aTm... Welcome aboard

I guess I was jumping the gun by assuming they are going to the PAC I just meant they it will allow them to leave the BIG 12 looking like they tried really hard to make it work wherever they go.

Not sure how anyone can think Texas is in the right on this whole thing. This is a classic politician move using technicalities to get what they want and trying to play it off as they are doing nothing wrong. ESPN is making money off the situation, as is UT, but UT will end up getting more than that, i.e. a stranglehold on overall college athletics elitism through the LHN, which through the partnership between themselves and ESPN, has already tried their hand at getting a leg up on the competition in recruiting by showing HS players' highlights/games, although they were shut down on both accounts.

With the PAC-12 not expanding and calling out UT by name, I would say that OU, OSU, and Mizzou to the SEC would be a very safe bet. UT would be wise to back off, and realize how much they lose by the breaking up of the Big XII that they have caused. There is much more at risk here than UT realizes in my opinion, and when OU, OSU, Mizzou, and A&M are comfy in their new home, Texas will eventually come calling, and by then it will be too late. Everyone will have already seen them for what they are: Horrible liars, terrible with politics, and low down, greedy bastards.

The LHN will never show a HS game, ever.

And may never show a Texas game.
