I find it hilarious that at the first sign that Miles might stay...the usual suspects come out in full force.

Oh, Saban?

3 losses.

People would be calling for a noose is Miles did that when they were picked to win the National Championship and SEC. It's ok to give him a pass there but not here if Miles had a year that way?

I would like Miles to stay too, but you know what, I also don't want him hijacking LSU. If he continues to recruit lights out and then proceed to utterly squander that talent to the point of only winning 8 games for 2 or 3 straight seasons and throw in another Tenn '10 or Ole Miss '09 game while not challenging for the conference title then yes LSU should reserve the right to fire his arse. He should know this and understand the reality of the situation.

Wow, so you disagree about how some of those first 6 games were coaches/managed terribly?

Nope, I agree that there were problems, but I think the the results plus overall performance over time are what count. Maybe what I was referring to as ironic was the reference to the overall intelligence of the LSU fans.

Michigan is pretty much effed now. Congratulations LSU, for those of you who wanted him to stay.

I hope Alleva tells him to take his arse to UM. The rollover shouldn't even be in the discussion for 8 wins, and if we win 8 games with the schedule and talent we play in two consecutive years, he should be fired.

Man I hope he leaves. This is ridiculous. I will NEVER support Les Miles.

I've lost total respect for him.

overreact much, Nancy?

9 win seasons these days when you play 13 is mediocre

It's not mediocre when you play 6-7 ranked teams every year. In the SEC, you will have ups and downs, depending on injuries, talent development, recruiting, etc...

Miles is a 10 win at best coach with NFL talent. He had awesome teams in his first four years and was LUCKY to get to the BCSNCG in 07.

So if he has another disaster 8-5 season, we are suppose to be ok with that and not fire him???? Let him go... Pug pug please!!!! This is better for us if he gets out of here

If Miles leaves the next coach could very well go 8-5 losing Miles recruits and putting his own systems in place but we would not fire him the first year. Why not show some loyalty to Miles for all he has done.

The problem stands with the people that expect down years + attrition not to happen. It happens everywhere and think it shouldn't happen at LSU.

You just have to accept that it will eventually happen again. Fans just can't act as if it's the end of the program and it's on a slide. College football is cyclical. Just gotta beat it into fans thick skulls that don't seem to understand that.

Meh.

Now THIS gets interesting.

Yes, we have some idiot fans that will bitch if we don't go undefeated every year.

An occasional 8-4 and even 7-5 season is possible. I hope we have commitment to a winning coach to realize that is possible.

BUT: for 4 million bucks per year, 8-4 and 7-5 better not be the norm.

I said that this year would be a key year for Miles. Another season like the last two, and it would be time to seriously look at some things.

I think Les passed the test with flying colors.

I don't think Les is looking for a pass for mediocrity.

And, I don't think the problem is so much fans bitching and moaning, but that idiotic letter that Alleva put out.

There was no reason for that at all.

He's asking for something that's insane. No school in their right mind would agree to a deal like that.

He's asking to continue to be paid top 5 money, where, contractually, the expectations are top 25.

It doesn't work like that. If you want top 5 money, the expectations in your contract should be top 5.

Has not happened even two years under Miles! What are you talking about?

I'm sorry, but 4 years and roughly 15 mil is plenty enough of a commitment. If Les doesn't think so, then he should just go, it would be better for all parties involved.

I expect to be held to a very high standard by those of have the capacity to understand the standard...not simply everyone who wants to set their own standard.

Les had the team 6-0 this season, and people still wanted him fired. It was the subject of national news articles. I can't blame him for feeling this way...

I'm not sure what the overwhelming sentiment in this thread has been, but I'm surprised to see so many on the first page saying that is an unreasonable request of Miles.

He's not saying he wants to be able to have 8 win seasons in perpetuity, but that if one or two rear their head during a down period, he shouldn't be catching flack from the AD that he catches from an overemotional fan base.
