Not only that; from the Dolphins perspective, it's better to have the replacement that you want in-hand before firing the current HC.

depends on what his personal goals are. If his main goal is making the most money possible, then sure. If he wants to win, the Niners are in a better position to do that

According to ESPN's Chris Mortensen, "some Dolphins coaches have been packing boxes Thursday morning." He says head man Tony Sparano is not one of them, however.

You would have thought that Miami learned their lesson with the Nick Saban fiasco. Paying obscene amounts of money to a college coach does not ensure future success. For $7-8 million, they probably could have stolen a good head coach from another NFL team, and not just those looking to leave, I'm talking about coaches with teams currently in the playoffs.

Perhaps the fins are willing to offer more in terms of player control as well. It could be more to it then just straight up dollar amount in regards to difference in the offers.
IMO I do not think it is good for a Head Coach to be his own GM, but that is a different topic.

I doubt it. The Dolphins are keeping GM Jeff Ireland.
the 49ers just hired Trevor Baalke.
seems like it will be about the same with possibility of Harbaugh given more power in SF.

Honestly, I like Jim Harbaugh a lot, I think he's a great coach, however, I don't think he's worth $7-8 million yet. If his heart is really set on the NFL fine, but hearing reports he wouldn't come to Michigan because we weren't going to pay enough is disheartening. Your school is in a bind, and while I know it's a huge mess to clean up, wouldn't you rather be paid a little less and help your alma mater?? Maybe I'm naive, and it's my female wishful thinking shining through.

I may agree it may not be the best way from a human relationship perspective, but it is what it is.
Also, do we really know whether Sporano has/does not have knowledge of his situation ??
MANY.. MANY corporations look at their avenues prior to firing someone....

He may not be worth that much, but if you're in his shoes, you have to take that kind of payday right now. You may never see that type of offer. Strike while the iron is hot.
Also, even if he fails in the NFL, he will have zero trouble getting a high profile job in college. Instead, if he goes to Michigan now, he may never again have the chance at coaching in the NFL.

A week ago Schefter was proclaiming the consensus was that Harbaugh was going to Michigan. He's botched everything related to him at this point.

No, I know. I understand that. I realize the Harbaugh thing is done and he really wants the NFL. Thats fine, it's just a little part of me still can't believe with us in as bad of a situation we are in he doesn't even remotely want to come here. It's whatever though I suppose.
I did write in another thread that logically, hiring Miles at Michigan now makes the most sense. You get 8ish years out of Miles, he retires, and assuming JH stock is still high, and he'd then have the NFL out of his system, bring him back to finish out his career at Michigan.
All that being said, I still don't think JH is worth $7-8 million yet.
