Do you think texas would push Mac brown out if they didnt have Saban lined up?

This is what makes this situation so unusual - just like with Lloyd Carr - there is a significant internal struggle in the AD at Texas to even make a move - but this has been discussed, as well as options for Mack to move up or on for 2 years now. He never solved the QB issue and can't seem to get them back to where "they" think the program needs to be.

I have 0 doubt that Saban is their top target and I have 0 doubt that Sexton is (or at least was, very recently) negotiating intensely on the details. Do the sides have an agreement in principle and details are all that are left? I don't know. Obviously, until there is a job opening, a resignation by Saban and a verbal, official announcement that he is the next coach at Texas - he can still walk away.

For the issue to be forced now - I have to believe that Texas has Saban, or someone like Urban Meyer, Mike Tomlin - some of the other names bandied about, ready to go.

But, then again, you have to fire a coach to hire a coach - this is the logical progression of these things, albeit it does seem silly to do it without a replacement lined up. Having said that, I think LSU has done that - fire the coach then look around and say, "Now what do we do?" - for every vacancy since Cholly Mac (except Archer).

I think it is perfect for him. Regardless of anyone's opinions on how UT has handled this, their situation is begging for a "savior". That's what he does. Goes into a program that is down, builds it up, and peaces out.

Saban may not be stupid (although his business investments may indicate differently), but he is most certainly greedy. This seems to be the one overarching characteristic that Saban has shown his entire career.

Yes, agree, however they have lost this year if they do not and if they had stayed the course they would have lost it anyway; so did they have a choice if they need to make such a drastic move, I don't think so - sure it could have been handled better but the upheaval was bound to come one way or the other

Texas is such a crap show right now
the only reason you think this is because the media is telling you this. They have a longtime, successful coach who's having a hard time walking away. And, the fans and many people want him to leave. It isn't really any different than Lloyd Carr, Bobby Bowden, or Joe Paterno. The only part that is a crap show is Mack Brown's unwillingness to walk away on his own.

Saban's gonna go to Texas, and he's going to have the same success he had at LSU and Bama at Texas. It's happening. If he stays 8 years, the little man is probably gonna win 2-3 more NCs over there. This so-called "crap show" is a media creation.

They think because he took a "pay cut" to come to bama, that means he loves them. They refuse to acknowledge the reason for the drop in pay was his inability to succeed in the nfl and he had no choice. Once he got to Tuscaloosa he has extorted them for as much as possible.

Pre-freaking-cisely. He gets fired in the NFL and he's damaged goods. He cuts bait in the NFL and heads back to college and he's a legend. Plain and simple. 28 year old professionals called bullshite on his methods, 18 year old redshirt Freshmen do not have that luxury.

Of all the stupid dumbass comments about this over the last few weeks this may be the dumbest. You guys don't get Saban. It's not about the money and never has been. And a bad business investment is just that BUSINESS. There are LLC's to prevent personal liability. You don't think if Dan Snyder or Jerry Jones got a phone call saying "Nick Saban on line one" that either of them would give him a blank check? Please.

It's not about the money? Didn't he just get an extension from y'all a few months ago? And now is extorting you for more or is headed to UT for way more? What do you call that cause the rest of the educated world calls it greed.

I agree, Nicky is not stupid. However, as far as greedy goes, when he gets this huge bump in pay, it will be his second this year, the last coming only back in March. Do not kid yourself, it is very much about money in some form or another. And next yr he'll get another 1-2 when a pro team comes calling.

STOP IT!!!! You're killing me!!! I'm crying real tears of laughter. Its a good thing you "get him." Tell us, what else does he whisper in your ear at night.

Not when you sign a PERSONAL GUARANTEE on the debt there isn't. Not that I would expect you to grasp that concept.

It would be a stretch for Saban to jump into the circus that is UT football. But dont forget, LSU was like that before he got here too. Boosters, AD's, coaches, media, all with their hands on the program, lots of in-fighting, and nobody quite knowing who's really in charge. Saban put a stop to all that when he got here.
No doubt he'd do the same at Texas from day 1, or before he even signed the contract. And it would probably take a big name coach like Saban to get everyone in line at UT.

Illustrations of dumpster fire would be useful in a fair assessment of said situation.

The media fiasco that has become of UT's coaching search has been messy. There appears to be a great amount of internal conflict and ambiguity in the direction of the program. There's almost a sense of panic in the execution of this "search". Initially, Saban's silence indicated interest in the job, but this situation now feels more like a firecracker that's fuse has burnt. We wait for the explosion, but it appears to be a dud.

All valid arguments. But is it really the dumpster fire that it appears to be? No one truly knows this. Everything so far has been mostly media speculation. I still with all of this think Saban stays at Bama. But their is a lot of things pointing at that alteast he is strongly considering it. Who could blame him. Their are a lot more reasons to go to Texas than to stay at Bama. I guess it just boils down to does he was want to rebuild another program?

We've talked about Mack's exit being similar to Bobby Bowden or Lloyd Carr (and it clearly is) - but this transition - it also looks a lot like when Shula was moved out to make room for Saban. Shula didn't have the gravitas or influence that Brown has or Bowden/Carr had at their respective institutions, but Shula's father was a muckety muck at Saban's employer - which intensely complicated things.

It is Don Shula's assessment of Saban's character that is so damning - He's a liar, a quitter and would be "no big loss" to the Dolphins organization.

That is his NFL legacy (which, of course, pains him deeply, as that was his "dream" job) - he pissed off and lost the respect of the only coach to pull off the perfect NFL season in the Super Bowl era. This also added to his overall reputation as an untrustworthy human being.

But win at all costs, and the rest will take care of itself, right? That's why I thought he was a perfect fit at Bama.

Are you going to be ok when he leaves Bama? Serious question, I'm concerned for your well being.
