I think it's just one of those Rant memes that takes on a life of its own, it gets repeated so much.

It could be true, but nothing he's done in his career shows that he's interested in the NFL.

I wouldn't want to work for Orgeron. He's a buffoon and interferes with everybody. We now know you can't make your assistants smarter than your boss.

People posting this unsubstantiated garbage is bad for the program. Much worse than losing a close game to ND.

It’s not unsubstantiated that Orgeron meddled with the offense.

I think GreenBay goes at John fox. They tend to go after coaches with the skins on the wall. Also was coach with Bears so he knows division well.

My God if we lose Canada and Aranda in the same offseason we may not make a bow game next season

One thing that should be mentioned is that unlike 90% of NFL teams the Packers don’t seem like the type to be afraid to make a bold hire. They aren’t the Bengals or Browns. I could see them going outside the box.

Aranda would not be outside the box. He would be outside the universe.

There is not a single NFL defensive coordinator with a college background, and none came directly from college. The few that coached in college at all, did it long ago and entered the NFL at the bottom and worked their way up.

I just looked at the twitter feeds of the beat writers covering the Green Bay Packers. They all have written extensively on the candidates and none mention Aranda.

as a packers owner, i would be cool with them hiring Aranda without any nfl experience.

As much as it's been "publicly stated he wants to be a DC in the NFL" it's been "publicly stated that he promised his wife & kids he would stay in B.R. for 5 yrs after all his jumping around". Much was even made of him apparently finally hanging his tv on a wall.

You've said this in a couple of different threads. It's not an entirely clear statement. There are several NFL DCs with college backgrounds, however, it is true that most, if not all, NFL DCs have had some sort of prior NFL experience before becoming an NFL DC.

That said, with Aranda's Wisconsin connections, his reputation as an elite college coordinator and his prior interview with the Packers, I think this is a risk that can't be so easily dismissed as you suggest.

I do take it as a good sign that Aranda is not being mentioned by beat writers covering the Packers.

There is no NFL DC that came to the NFL directly from college as a DC.

Meaning it is a position given to NFL veterans, not college coaches with ZERO NFL experience.

Of the small amount with any college experience, it was long ago and they transitioned to the NFL as position coaches or lower.

Of all the names being mentioned by Packers beat writers, they all have a decade or more in the NFL.

Not that he couldn't be a position coach. Got to start somewhere. I don't think he gets any interest this year.

True, but Green Bay isn't going to pay Aranda $2M/yr to be a position coach. They'd have to offer him a DC position and then he'd still take at least a moderate pay cut. I feel pretty good about him staying unless there's more drama going on behind the scenes with O that we don't know about.

Atlanta has an OC with 1 year of NFL experience, and that was in 2004. It is not entirely unprecedented.

It's not unprecedented, although Sark may be about to get fired, so it's not an endorsement of the plan.

It's extremely rare, such that of 64 offensive and defensive coordinators, Sark is the only one to come straight from college.

There have been head coaches come straight from college as well, but they usually had extensive pro experience prior.

No chance. Green Bay will be hiring a new GM, and McCarthy isn't guaranteed a job. With his job on the line, I don't think he will gamble on a college D.C.
