Has Jerry screwed things up so much that nobody really wants the gig?
Would he throw 12 million at Sean Payton?

I don't think we'll see another big time coach go to the Cowboys until Jerry leaves. Some guys that are only good enough to be coordinators? Like Wade Phillips? Sure. Some young guys that are looking for a chance to be a head coach for the first time like Garrett? Sure.
But a Saban, Payton, or Harbaugh? Nah.

The cowboys are just like the longhorns. They are run by big ego rich boys that know less than my 12 y/o about football and that's why both are a trainwreck.

I personally don't believe any amount of money will make SP want anything to do with the Cowboys so long as Jones is running the team.

As a Cowboys fan I firmly believe the only way that the Cowboys will ever be anywhere close to the greatness of the 90's again will be if JJ gives up the GM spot, which he never will. Jerry Jones' ego is what cost them the coach that brought the Cowboys back to greatness (Jimmy Johnston) and his ego is what is causing the mediocracy now. It truly is painful to watch. Although I do not want to find another owner, because let's face it, who could put up the money to buy the Cowboys anyway? Jerry Jones is going to end up firing Garrett, something he should've done two years ago, and then he will go after a bunch of coaches who will not go to Dallas because they do not want to put up with him. As painful as it is to say this, the Cowboys will be a mediocre team as long as Jerry Jones is the owner.

Jerry Jones will never sell the Cowboys but if he did there would be no shortage of people that would buy it. It's amazing that after nearly 20 years of mediocre football the Cowboys are still easily the most valuable brand in the NFL. You either love the Cowboys or hate them and they drive ratings and interest like no one else. Owning the Cowboys is a guaranteed money maker as the biggest brand in the biggest sport.
That said, at some point Jerry will step down as GM, he is currently 71. Even more importantly at some point he will allow a GM to do his job. His son Stephen will almost certainly take over. The question is if Stephen will hire a real GM. From all indications Stephen is not quite the egomaniac his father is but he is still currently COO and Director of Player Personnel. If he can just focus on signing players and taking care of the business while letting a real pro run the team the Cowboys could get back to greatness pretty quickly.
As it is though, it doesn't matter who coaches the Cowboys as they are doomed to failure. They have the least amount of toughness and heart of any football organization I have ever seen and this is coming from a lifelong Cowboys fan. I was watching the game on Sunday with friends and as soon as Green Bay scored their first TD I called it that the Cowboys would blow that game or would only pull it out by the skin of their teeth. They simply cannot take a punch and they always fold under pressure. It's pathetic.
The sad thing is Jones is actually a great and truly innovative owner. If he would just focus on that instead of trying to be not only GM but an overbearing GM the Cowboys would be amazing. The biggest mistake Jerry actually ever made though was pushing for a salary cap. If the NFL didn't have a cap he could just go out and buy players worse than the Yankees do and the Cowboys would own the league. It makes for a better NFL product but when you have an overbearing idiot like Jones running the show he needs to be able to buy his way out of mistakes.

They should fire the staff and let Jerry and Steven coach them. Then they would see how stupid they are when it comes to football knowledge.
