they could probably get another good coach like for half the price of Miles, is he gonna take a 50% paycut? I somehow doubt it. I don't doubt that he might drop a few hundred thousand, but he wouldn't take a cut over 1.5 mil

New to the board. Have been reading the posts and wanted to give my opinion. Hope you guys don't mind. I'm a Michigan Alum (cheer for LSU as well), so I know with certainty that our alumni association is not only the largest, but very generous and their pockets run pretty deep (yes even in this economy). I have no doubt that should we go through with a coaching change (and I do to some extent believe the writing is on the wall), and try to get Miles, the big time boosters would pull together money to not only pay his buyout but offer him a generous salary comparable to what he makes at LSU. Our revenue alone from football over the past two years has been almost $200 mil (not sure if that includes donations from Alums). With stadium renovations set to be finished for the 2010 season, and from what I've heard, not many of the premium seats have sold (can you blame them really with the past two seasons?) I think the boosters are going to want to try to get in a big name associated with the University and Bo that can put us back on a winning track and get those premium seats sold.
I just hope if we do have to go through another coaching search it's handled a hell of a lot better than the last one!! Sorry to step on any ones toes. You guys have a fine coach, one that I think Michigan would be extremely lucky to have. Don't take him for granted, because it could be a whole lot worse (just look at our past two seasons)!!

everybody on this site projected us to have two OR three losses this season. dont see how we could of expected anymore out of this season.
now NEXT year, i could see really being pissed at two losses.

I heard UM has asked the NC2A for preliminary findings by early December and also that MSC refused an interview request yesterday about RichRod.
Do you know if it is true?

I think your line at 1.5 million is fair, and I consider that a bargain for Michigan and Miles. They'll get a Bo Schembechler disciple who will retire at Michigan and beat OSU his fair share. He'll get his dream job. As an aside, I wouldn't expect Michigan to low-ball Miles. I assume they would either match LSU's current salary package or come close to matching it.

I had heard that we could have the findings from the NCAA by December. What I find to be the most interesting is that this week of all weeks, the University itself decided to release to the Detroit News the story about the practice log audits. To me that sends up a red flag. Seems like they are paving the way to let him go without having to pay the buyout.

The only meeting I know of was the one that took place between Rods agent and MSC where she gave her "100% support" (I mean really what else is she going to say) but then again most of the Michigan message boards refuse to be realistic about the situation and refuse to talk about anything negative, especially this week.

Michigan is an intelligent institution, they would be well served by hiring Les Miles.

I understood the Monday meeting was between her and Rod and that his agent was not there and only relayed what he understood was discussed.
If UM gets beat down by OSU for the 2nd year in a row, it is going to get even hotter. I don't think RichRod understands the real importance of this game.

If we don't get annihilated on Saturday I will be extremely surprised. I know stranger things have happened in this rivalry, but I just can't see us pulling off a win. I agree with you that he doesn't seem to get it. There are a lot of things he doesn't seem to get.
It's nice to have somewhere to vent and not have a multitude of people jump down your throat. Like I said, all of our message boards these days frown upon negative comments about RR (these same people are also the ones who wouldn't allow you to critique Lloyd Carr and are now throwing him under the bus for all our teams shortcomings) and then call you a disloyal fan. I personally cannot see a reason to give him another year at this point (and I know I'm not the only one). I'm tired of hearing every week that he will assess our problems and make changes, and then the next week seeing no changes. I'm tired of him throwing blame to everyone but himself. Every week it's something/someone new. I see no reason to believe as far as recruiting goes that our defense is going to be any different next year. And then the whole NCAA investigation. It's the same for any coach whose team is not performing to fan expectations. Truth of the matter is once you get into the season, big changes are not possible. There is not enough time what with game planning and the practice limitations.
I think UM plays OSU closer than most people expect. UM can score points - just can't stop a lot of teams, but OSU's offense is not setting records this year - unless the team has quit on him after the disaster at Camp Randall.

I'm not saying full out schematic changes, but some improvement would at least be nice. The fact of the matter is we are regressing as the season goes on. You expect at least some progress. Even one of our own defensive players has said he's tired of hearing the excuses people are giving for the defense and we absolutely should be better as the season progresses.
We'll see how it turns out, I'll be there on Saturday cheering on the team regardless.

Maybe expectations were lowered as a result of his performance last season.

I realize no one is going to jump down my throat since it's an LSU message board and they could probably honestly give two craps about the state of Michigans football program. I can see why people are jumping down the throats of those complaining about two losses though. I mean yes they have the right to complain just as much as those have the right to defend, but from an outsiders perspective...I'd rather be in your guys' position with two losses to the two best teams in the nation than at the very bottom of the Big 10. Trust me when I say, it could be a lot worse...a hell of a lot worse.
