Why would a proven coach at a power 5 conference leave for LSU?

The playoff system has made the SEC a worst place to coach at. During the 2 years of the playoff the most any conference as taken to the playoff in a year is 1 team.
Why would a coach want to have to win the SEC to make the playoff when they can win the ACC, BIG 12, Pac12, or BIG10? The top three teams in each of those leagues are going to pay their coached 5 million plus if need be also.
With that said obviously Herman would be a great hire.

don't worry we aren't going to take dabo from you. we don't want him

Coaches are competitive. Once they've won a National Championship in a lesser conference, why wouldn't they want to try in the powerful SEC? Remember that successful coaches believe they can win, anywhere!

That's why I think LSU should drive a brinks truck to Herman's place.

money and recruiting

all situations are different. les miles was a proven power 5 guy and he jumped at the opportunity. 60 million bucks later, we still owe him 12 million.
there's 2 reasons in my sentence up there; money, and opportunity to win big. there are more, many more.

1. Money
2. facilities- LSU has a 100,000 person stadium. People care about their work envirment.
3. Most head coaches are scared bitches like people seem to think they are
4. If you are in the other Power 5 Conferences you have to worry about this being the year your champ gets left out. Ask the Big 12 and the Pac 12. there were questions about OSU the year they won even getting in.
5. higher ceiling than 90% of teams out there.

Yeah, why would you want a coach that actually built a top 5 program without Saban's help.

Ego. These are serious alpha males who believe they're the best and eager to prove it.

Saban will be gone in 3 years. Herman would rule the conference

No matter what some here think, LSU is a premier name in college football.
The right coach if successful could become a legend here.
Like working your way up in a job.
More money, more exposure, more power.

Meh, all major conference programs can pay the money now. Hell LSU broke the mold in 99 when it gave Saban 1.2 million.

Same reason Dabo is gonna leave Clemson for Bama....money, prestige, and the most fertile recruiting base in the country

Bielema left Wisconsin for fricking arkansas

That doesn't equal an easier path to the playoff when you're in the SEC West. You don't want your conference to be talented from top to bottom. Clemson had no problem making the playoff having to beat only Florida State and Notre Dame.
Louisville being good this year only hurts Clemson. Clemson and FSU don't need anyone else to be good in the ACC. It is an easy path. Competition is going to leave you like Ole Miss. (The best 2 loss team in the country.)

I think one big draw for Fisher would be that LSU would be a destination and not a stepping stone.
