This is a 30 minute watch, so skip to the chunk between 2:30 - 8:00 to see the important argument.

The numbers do not lie; a potent offense is mandatory to have a chance at a championship, while a defense must only be decent. An elite defense with a mediocre offense is a loser in today's game if you are trying to win it all.

This may all change in 5 years, but right now, you need offense more than you need defense. You are better off with a head coach who can keep you elite on offense and hunting up the best DC's you can get.

defense helps you win games if you have enough points on the board, but if you cant score, then you cant win

That’s all Lies. A final score of 3-0 is a win just like 63-42 is a win. A high scoring offense is for the fans to sell tickets a good defense is for fans who understand football.

UGA appears to be an extreme outlier. And they still have to win something beyond the SEC East.

We say as the most dominant team in the nation by a mile is an all time defense with an only okay offense. I don't know if you've noticed, but we've had a string of years with absurdly good QB play that ended up translating to the NFL as well. Alabama, Ohio State, and OU also both happen to be elite offenses that are locks for the playoff every year. There's not really a strong reason to think that this is causation rather than mere correlation.

This is that exception year that there is no elite offense. Look what happened to UGA in 2019. Very similar defense numbers and Burrow carved them up.

You are 100% correct.

To take it one step further, You need very good play from the QB position

It’s an interesting argument that he is trying to make that “offense wins championships” when the coach with the best offense year in year out (Lincoln Riley) hasn’t won a championship.

He also downplays how well LSUs defense was playing at the end of 2019z the offense was all time but the defense shut down Oklahoma in the first half allowing for a huge lead to coast out the game. We then shut down Clemsons elite offense allowing for the offense to recover from a rare relatively slow start.

If the defense isn’t elite then who knows if we keep up with Clemson who they themselves had an elite offense

Saban, Smart and others would disagree. Better to have a HC who can lock down one side of the ball, whether offense or defense. Then he needs to be good at evaluating and hiring the coaches under him.
