Yeah sure. He could fail.

I’m just saying Alabama is not going to sit back and watch an Auburn happen. And I absolutely do not think recruiting is going to plummet. Drop yes. But they are 100% going to invest millions to get players. Make no mistake. I hate it, but it’s true.

This shows how much Saban has skewed things. There never was and never will be another hire like that.

Shula was all that was an available after Price had to be let go, in the late spring I don’t think think anyone would thought wow great hire. Price did an amazing job at Washington St we’ll never know what he could have done since he was fired for off field issues before coaching a game. Fran took over a 3-8 team with probation issues and went 7-5, 10-3 including beat down of Saban in TS before leaving, he was garbage at A&M but he no knows what would have happened if he stayed at Bama.

A few ways to look at it. Washington had 2022 TCU levels of senior leadership. They were going to be decimated next year.

If Saban had waited another year to retire, do you think Bama would have hired him had UW gone 8-5 in the Big 10 in 2024? Because I think that's a great season for them next year with them losing about 20 starters this offseason.

I think the frustration for the rest of the SEC will be that he can clearly pick QBs out of the portal. Jake Haener was a pretty good QB for Fresno St.

Now, my hope is that DeBoer is fools gold on that end because he knew about Penix when he was his OC at Indiana.

Why would an LSU fan be concerned for Bama's recruiting. We're about to emerge as a phoenix from the ashes of the remains of college football and rain terror on all that stands in our way.

There’s no way Bama will allow a “high risk” guy to come in and ruin their recruiting process. And they definitely are not going to stop spending on it.

As far as if he will fail or not, that is unknown of course. But Bama certainly is happy.

He played with 3 star players in the Pac 12. The top half of the SEC could do what Washington did in the Pac 12. The SEC is a different animal. You need great coaching and stud players.

This is actually a very big concern and I’m surprised it hasn’t been brought up more.

The SEC is an arms race like never before. Does this guy have it?

Were you worried about Saban's recruiting when LSU hired him back in 1998?

This was his final recruiting class at Michigan State:

quote:

TE Chris Baker 6'4" 250lb Saline

DB/WR Duron Bryan 6'0" 185lb Lexington Park, MD

DT Willie Comerford 6'4" 280lb St. Petersburg, FL

QB Lorenzo Guess 6'3" 190lb Wayne

TB Herb Haygood 6'0" 180lb Sarasota, FL

DB Renaldo Hill 5'11" 170lb Detroit

LB Matt Kropf 6'4" 220lb Traverse City

QB Matt Mauck 6'3" 220lb Jasper, IN

TE/LB Ivory McCoy 6'4" 225lb Chicago, IL

LB Ben Meloche* 6'3" 225lb Beloeil, Quebec

LB Joel Mesman 6'3" 245lb Grand Rapids

DE Nick Meyers 6'4" 255lb Springfield, OH

OL Shawn Murphy 6'5" 285lb Cincinnati, OH

WR/DB Demont Smith 5'11" 175lb Grand Rapids

OL Josh Smith 6'5" 275lb O'Fallon, IL

DL Artie Steinmetz 6'5" 275lb Edgewood, KY

WR/DB DeMario Suggs 6'0" 185lb Toledo, OH

LB T.J. Turner 6'4" 240lb Hillsboro, OH

DT Marty Wensel 6'4" 275lb Slatington, PA

Did a single name on this roster make it to the NFL?

Just wait until they don’t win 10 games next season and not in the top 5 in recruiting

Especially with milroe at qb. Things are gonna drop off quickly at bammer and recruits will know the program is in decline

Blanked LSU, and Nick Saban, 31-0 in Baton Rouge.

He left because we went on probation. Looking back it was a terrible decision for him.

Worked out in the end for us.

Seems like a lot of dancing around a valid question in this thread.

It’s ironic bc they hired a guy who is no more a “fit” than BK is at LSU and I guess it’s embarrassing to admit the hypocrisy now.

He’s a good coach and will do a good job just as BK is doing a good job despite the concerns from sec folks that he wasn’t a “fit”

Like LSU, qbs will be lining up to play for Deboer after what he did with Penix. They are 100% portaling a starting qb for '24.

bullshite. Saban was the selling point. The elite players knew Saban could get them to the league. This cat is in for an interesting ride.

Won bs conference. If you think he wins east or west with that team you are in for rude awakening. Who did they beat Oregon twice, YAY!

No, I don't count little league.

Why, because it doesn't fit neatly into your argument?

Yeah, let's just ignore the part of his career where he won multiple championships with a fraction of the resources he has now.

He just played for a national championship with 3* recruits. This is an A+ hire.

He went undefeated in the PAC 12. Not exactly a monumental task given he had no competition other than Oregon. Yes, a good game against Texas, but got his sh*t pushed in by a good, but not out of this world, Michigan. Look, he might turn out ok but to say it’s an A+ is a real stretch if you’re basing this off this year.

Not a bama fan at all but come on do you really think recruiting Washington is anything like recruiting bama. He will be fine recruiting.

His 2024 class at UWw is behind fricking Purdue. While having a stellar season and a very good one last year.

Washington isn't that bad to recruit to.
