I don't know how many times I have told you, I don't hate Tom Herman. I don't know the guy. I have never even seen him in person. The thing that annoys me is that idiot LSU fans want to hire a guy who has been a head coach in a little league conference for 1 1/2 years. You said yourself today in the "Aranda" thread on this very board, that you would expect the current Wisconsin defensive coordinator to be on the job at least four years before LSU should consider hiring him.
If I was a coach and could win a game by starting a harmless rumor about a fellow coach who has no focus what-so-ever it would be an easy decision. Wouldn't be my problem if the guy isn't a good enough coach to keep his team focused and motivated enough to win a football game. I would have to be concerned about MY job security. "Focus" is a term used quite often in football. If a coach doesn't have focus or if his team doesn't have focus, who's fault is it? Oh, that's right it's a rumor's fault.
LSU has fired their coach, no fricking rumors of him leaving, Les Miles has been fired. Did the LSU players roll the frick over and play dead?
Houston was undefeated, ranked #6 in the country and had a shot at the playoffs and a national championship. If that isn't enough to motivate a team to get up and prepare for Navy, Tula, and SMU I don't know what would be. Herm should have wanted to win those games, his career is at stake.

Herman is the best available coach. 10 years from now you will crying about how badly LSU butchered this hiring if they pass on herman.

Man I hope you're right. If I'm alive in 10 years I will gladly cry over missing out on Herman. I would pass over every HC that has currently only been on the job for 1 1/2 years for a 10 year life extension for each one on of those buggers.

Maybe they quit when their goal of going back to a big bowl game was off the table. The loss to Navy knocked them out of the running for it.

UH had a lofty goal/focus to run the table this year and have a chance to qualify for the playoff. It appears they have had trouble recovering from that the first loss that actually knocked out their goal, and the fact their coach is already being pursued and probably through representation is talking to LSU and Texas.
The losses are a product of lost focus, and for whatever the reason is a hard thing to win without.

UH will always do OK with a decent coach because of the size of Houston and overabundance of talent in that area. Makes Petrino look really good in a smaller market like louisville IMO

Herman hasn't quit and neither did Nick. Any man who is the least bit competitive and has pride would never lay down. They would try to beat you in a game of marbles.
With that said I don't want Herman, Fisher or any other glorified play caller as our head coach. It's defense that wins championships. Nick himself said why stay in the NFL and get 1 first round pick when I can get 25 in college.
I want a coach that can win with 21 points on the board and have a defense that will hold you to 10. Scoring 40+ and losing sucks. Not sure if CEO is the guy but I damn sure wouldn't waste 5 -7 mil on Herman or Fisher.

For a coach with such limited experirnce. A skid like this should be alarming, especially when his team is more talented than those beating him.

Maybe it is the players quitting on Herman not the other way around. Don't know just saying it might be the exact opposite. The fact is Herman doesn't play in the games, the players do. Now I believe Herman has to take responsibility for getting his players up for games so doesn't really matter who quits on who the coach is the one who is responsible.

Well, what about LSU then? LSU tossed their HC's whole body out to the street. LSU players don't know who their coach will be next year. Is coach O better than Herman at keeping his players focused and motivated to win games?

I think the difference here is that LSU players were somewhat relieved to have Les gone, and the UH players are bummed about their coach leaving. I mean no doubt O can hype a team up. I'm just saying the circumstances are a bit different.
Eta: not that herman gets a complete pass for his performance as of late because of this. Not saying that.

There is a difference between rallying against external forces (admins firing your coach) and tuning out a coach you know is going to bail on you.
You can see this happen with other teams. Fuente'/ Memphis team beat one of the best Ole Miss teams in years and lost 3 games after that.
