If we pay him 12 million and he goes to the playoffs 3 times over 5 years and doesn’t win a championship. Do you view that as a success or failure?

Upvote for a decent point, but the dude made two Heisman's in back-to-back seasons. I got the purple and gold glasses, but I can't help but think the talent we have in this state at the skill positions would bode well for his ability to coach them up.

High upside on the offensive side similar to what Aranda would bring on the defensive side. Both young, aggressive, and would be successful with the recruits available.

I just think it's easy enough to project a Saban-like jump for him at LSU with the talent pool he will be surrounded with.

I mean, finishing top four 3 out of 5 years is not a failure

And he of course would be worth the 12M as LSU football would be printing money with those kind of results

Based on this logic, there would only be 2 coaches every season that would be qualified for our HC position — 1 would likely be Nick Saban and the other would be whoever he beats in the NC.

This and only mother fricking this.

The only better candidate better than Lincoln is Saban and Dabo which you obviously won't get.

Anybody who is upset with Lincoln is a mother fricking retard. Like everyone brings up, we won a national title with mother fricking Les Miles and Ed O, two of the dumbest idiots walking on planet earth. We'd be a dynasty with Lincoln. That's a fact not opinion.

I’ll pose another question - who’s the better coach, Lincoln or Kirby

That’s irrelevant. Kirby Smart isn’t attainable.

And he lost to a loaded UGA team, Bama, and LSUs best team ever.

I'd be concerned if he lost to Notre Dame or something, they lost to better teams.

It’s no irrelevant when people in the thread are saying he’s the best coach aside from Saban or Dabo

For his teams performance in the CFP. He’s 0-3 with each performance being worse than the year before.

other than UGA game he was way over matched physically. Nothing he could really do.

he has OU recruiting at a clip that they havent seen except for about a 2-3 year period after the NC with the 01,02,03 classes. but he is still maxed out there.

if he comes here its not solely money with his contract, in fact that will not be the hamstrung with money for support staff, mainly the recruiting and eval staff.

if we are doing this, we are going all in. im talking same level of support that bama and UGA are providing

I love the commentary. There’s no denying he’s a great coach and if you can pull him then get him. But you can argue he made the playoffs the first three years under stoops recruits. His fourth season as head coach with his recruits he missed the playoffs and if this team was in the SEC they’d probably have 3 losses.

Are you serious or just ignorant? I'll go with ignorant. They weren't just Stoops' recruits. Riley had been with Oklahoma since 2015. Riley coached up HIS guys. HIS guys lost by a TD to UGA. HIS guys lost by 11 to Bama. His guys also got smoked by LSU, but many teams did including Kirby Smart

He lost to Georgia, Bama, and LSU's greatest team all-time.

How is this a negative?

People keep spitting out he is 0-3, but that talent gap has to matter.

Keep in mind these are his first three seasons ever HC'ing. He won the Cotton last year in a blowout. People can dismiss that win if they like, but not sure he deserves to be crushed so much for his 0-3 playoff start to his coaching career.

Outside CUM and Freeze he's the best coach for LSU on paper.

You act like Florida didn’t have a ton of NFL talent (Pitts, Toney, Grimes, Davis, and Wilson) sit out.

So your argument is that if you get blown out twice over the course of ~5 years, it should disqualify you? Guess we are gonna be looking for our coach for a while.

To be fair, Aranda, Fickel, Tucker, Kiffin, and InsertNameHere have never won playoff games before as Head Coach either. Atleast Riley's been there.
