Safe based on what exactly? Show me literally one shred of evidence that clarifies this with certainty..

I do not understand the mentality some people have of wanting to hire a guy out of FEAR that he might be better than he seems instead of hiring the guy who you already identified as being good and worth the money. Don't make these choices out of fear of the negative outcome. Make them out of calculation of the positive outcome.
If I'm shopping for a car and decide that car A is the best car for my family and our needs, I don't then go buy car B because my neighbor might get it instead and do fun things with it that I could have done. I buy what I calculated to be the best for my situation.
Don't fear what Napier "might" do elsewhere. Evaluate the LSU coaching position needs, evaluate the potential targets to fill the spot, and pick the one you calculate is the best going forward. Let UF or whoever else roll the dice on the could-have should-have might maybe possibly stuff. That's what got them McElwain.

He’s going to turn Florida into a monster and we’re going to have to deal with it for years to come.

I’m gonna wait until the hire is officially announced before making such statements

As for Napier, he simply can’t be given the keys to a Ferrari from a skateboard
Since 2000, there have been 10 NC coaches. 4 have had previous P5 head coaching experience, 6 did not.

Same thing was uttered about Mullen
No. Mullen’s potential was always stated with a caveat. And that is, if he's willing to recruit. State fans complained constantly about his unwillingness to recruit.

Because you’re easily influenced by media

Everyone said that when Florida hired Mullen and McElwain, and we all know how that turned out. Not saying Napier can’t have success at Florida but let’s pump the brakes on him turning them into a “monster”.

This. Mullen was always an Xs n Os guy, so ppl just thought by default that UF would pull the talent he needed to be successful.
As we see now, that didnt happen.

The promise of Mullen was never NC. It just wasn't. We knew it.
What it was supposed to be was stability. Year-in 10+ win seasons. And that started off pretty well. Then it didn't. So he got the boot.
But very few of us expected a top-5 program under Dan Mullen.

Because he was a top 4 choice, and we can’t trust the school to hire one of the 3 ahead of him

Im not really a fan of his offense from what ive seen but if he can pull top 8 classes to UF Im willing to see how it goes with a good DC.

Sounds good. You guys can have him.

Not at all. Mullen was seen as the solid gameday coach who would up the quarterback game and improve the offense. The rest was a question mark. As it turns out, all he really did was offense.
McElwain was a total question mark. He was Florida's attempt at "Hire a Saban guy, maybe it'll work out." That's a crapshoot.
Muschamp was probably the most exciting option because he'd had such a reliable defensive resume and was a HC in waiting. He just sucked at it, no real explanation.
A guy like Napier is a risk. He's an Urban Meyer, circa 2004. Might be an amazing steal, might fizzle out quickly.

I don’t think anyone seriously would prefer Napier over Riley.
The problem is striking out on Riley and being left with the bottom of the barrel to choose from. Pursuing Riley is becoming a much higher risk when your second and third candidates are leaving your board. At some point you have to do a SWOT analysis and realize that you’re going to be left in a world of hurt if you miss out on all of your top candidates and have to hire BoB

All I'm saying is the approach of "no we gotta have a proven P5 head coach!" is:
1. not realistic in a lot of cases. I really don't even see why Riley would leave for LSU, for example
2. no guarantee of continued success

His offense is only limited because of his QB’s limitations.
