Why did Alleva and Herman not sign a contact on Thursday?

Assuming there was a verbal agreement in place and mutual interest in making a deal, why wait to sign the contract? Why did Alleva not try to lock Herman up before the conclusion of the UT/TCU game?

eta: I get that Houston played on Friday, but that wouldn't have prevented a contract from being signed, would it?

Because Herman was still under contract with Houston and wouldn't walk out before his last game there.

Couldn't he have just signed a contract that began the following day (that Saturday)?

Because Herman was only using LSU to force Texas's hand in firing Strong

Herman was also probably still trying to hold out on the chance he got his dream job at UT.

Seriously? Herman wanted to hear from UT before making a decision. When he found out that they wanted him, it was over for LSU.

Herman, almost certainly, never intended to choose us over Texas. We shouldn't have wasted our time, when it became clear that Strong was on his way out.

Instead, we should have conducted an extensive, thorough coaching search and then hired the coach that gave us the best chance for future success.

Alleva could still have a written agreement, not orally, to lock him up days before but Alleva just f***ed it up to give O a chance.

That makes sense. Outside of going over the top and getting in a bidding war with UT, I wonder if there was anything else Alleva could have done to lock down Herman?

You mean other than:

- it doesn't fit the facts of the situation,
- it would be a HUGE conflict of interest for Herman in which case we shouldn't want to have anything to do with him
- just for starters.

and clearly you have no idea what business discussions and negotiations are about. And ethics.

Young, uninformed, immature fools.

Grown the hell up.

What statements were incorrect?

Kirby Smart was hired by UGA in December 2015 and stayed with Alabama through the 2016 playoffs. I really don't think it would have been a big conflict of interest for Herman to sign a contact before Houston's final game of the season.

---

I understand Herman was waiting on the UT job. I'm just curious if Alleva could have done anything to hire Herman before UT got the chance to.

We all knew deep down that JA would screw this up and he did. He is simply a very poor AD and the best word to describe him would be Amateur. He has been and will continue to get "played". He really needs to be shown the door. Look at the track record just from the past 12 months of how he has handled things.

Depends on the dates specified in the contract, specifically the activation date.

They probably discussed the terms and had to have a contract drawn up. I still don't understand how so many of our fans are so naive about how deals are done and especially that Herman was using us

I just don't see why Alleva has to pull an offer just because he heard a pitch. Let it play out. Why get emotional. Always could hire O today, tomorrow, tuesday

Contracts are rarely signed when deals are made. It typically takes weeks/months to get all the fine print done.

Everyone knows JA handled this poorly, but none of yall would have thought any better of him if he would he would have been led around by the nose by Armstrong for another 24-48 hours. Once they leaked the deal, it was obvious they werent dealing in good faith.
