Why can't Miles make a statement like Sean Payton's?

Sean Payton announced that he has no interest in the Michigan job or any job other than the one he has. It would be very easy for Miles to make the same statement. What is he waiting for? This man ( or his agent ) plays way too many games. Aleva should force his hand. And, any new contract with an increase in pay should be based purely on incentives ( championships )..

"I will not be the next coach of Alabama" Saban circa 2006

These statements, even if Miles makes one, mean NOTHING.

Exactly. There's really no reason for him to say anything.

Has he met with the media today? When would such an event take place?

He shouldn't have to deny what has not been formally offered, he doesn't have to answer to anyone, rabble rabble rabble fart sound

Because he's a Michigan man.

Because there is reason to make one

Did you expect him to comment on the affair rumors between him and Carr and Co too? Makes just as much sense for him to

Seems like it would be a good idea recruiting-wise, no?

But he doesn't want to eliminate another possible undeserved raise.

There is absolutely a reason to publicly say he isn't going

Because that would end his only leverage for getting a raise.

If you are naive enough to believe that they have not already had many conversations about this topic then you are delusional.

Why would anyone believe that Michigan has genuine interest in Payton?

Statements by coaches are worthless.

I'm sure he can. I think the question you want to ask is why doesn't he.

It would be very easy for Miles to make that statement. Did you ever stop to think the reason he hasn't is because he is interested in the Michigan job?

Maybe he's waiting to be offered the Michigan job.

What game is it he's playing? How exactly should Alleva "force his hand?" Pretty sure the only thing he can threaten him with is being fired, and I think we all know there's no way that is going to happen.

Kids are going to believe a face to face conversation long before a statement

Like others have said, public statements mean jack shite.

He's telling recruits that he's staying so that's just as effective as a statement.
