No one east of the Mississippi wanted Harsin, or even knew who he was.

No one wanted Bowden, Auburn would never have considered the guy if his last name wasn’t Bowden. Hell, SAMFORD wouldn’t have considered the guy if his name wasn’t Bowden.

At the time Malzahn was hired, I recall only Vandy having a passing interest

When Auburn hires a guy with the criteria below, they coach at least a decade, and win a NC. It’s not hard.

Head coach at a large school who improved each year
Never fired
Knows the south
Sought by peer schools for their HC job

Coached there before so I could easily see this happening. I’m just not sure of his interest. For all the chatter about him he sure has been quiet.

I know it’s hard to process, so take all the time you need.

Where would Sumrall go?

Stay at Tulane another year and be in the mix for likely Baylor, Wisconsin, Florida St, Kentucky, North Carolina (who wanted him before the Billy B circus happened) next season?

he was up for the Wake Forest job when he was hired - he even mentioned it at his introductory presser

same old NWA contingent wanted him at Arky, they picked Bert instead

Tubs and Dye were both up-and-comers, in fact Tubs might have gotten the LSU gig if they had decided to kick DiNardo to the curb in ‘98 rather than give him one more season (which worked out pretty well in retrospect)

Sumrall checks all those boxes except the first

but supposedly he’s headed to the Sip now

I think Aub keeps Dirkin and gives him a "prove yourself" contract...and I think that would be a wise move

I think that’s the right move for a lot of these openings. Unless you can pull a Lane Kiffin, you are better off going shorter contract on a coordinator or mid major coach. With this new landscape of nil I wouldn’t be signing anyone to a 8+ year contract anymore.

Durkin would probably be the smart move for Auburn.

I don’t have to process anything. I know both Jon, his wife Ginny, and their family well.

If Auburn calls, he’s going to Auburn.. It’s his top job.

OM Is a fall back-like you typically are.

I mean the only reason your coach is so in demand right now is because he took your bottom dweller program that has never won anything to a possible playoff appearance

I consider “large school” to be “ school eligible for the CFB Playoff”. So, yes.

Are you from Huntsville, baw? Or do you know the wife from AU? If you don't want to get too specific, I understand.

Yes, I’m from HSV and went to Grissom with them both. I’ve known both of them and their families for years.

No, I don’t know if he has an offer from Auburn but I do know it’s their first choice-from Jon to Ginny, to both their families.

From everything I've heard on our side he's off to Auburn and has someone from Troy putting a staff together.

Can't speak to timing of any announcement, he left Troy on good terms and I expect Auburn to honor his wishes and let him see it through however long he wants.
