You still have a bigger population than Alabama, Kentucky, or Arkansas. Alabama is small, but more importantly, they have to compete in state directly against Bama.
Alabama might be small but in terms of population but in terms of talent it's deep there. Plus Atlanta is close to Aubbie.
Best talent pool in Tennessee is Memphis and that's closer to ole piiss.

sloppy fourths and fifths.
Petrino proved he could win with these FWIW

1. Tennessee (pluses: good reputation, meetable expectations, good talent to work with, proven name brand. Minus: meh instate talent)
2. Arky (pluses: no in state competition for recruits, rabid fan base. Minus: meh instate talent, best talent is graduating)
3. AU (plus: good instate talent, minus: unrealistic expectations, huge instate rival, possible looming sanctions)
4. UK (plus: low expectations. minus: little instate talent, apathetic fan base, more successful instate rival)
2. Arky (pluses: no in state competition for recruits, rabid fan base. Minus: meh instate talent, best talent is graduating)

Arky is a very "meh" job. Solid fanbase and facilities, but they will forever be relegated to A&M, Texas, OU and LSU's sloppy fourths and fifths.
Must suck to be 25-41 against a "meh" program

Auburn is in a better recruiting position than UT and Arky.
Aub does have the instate recruiting but, on a national level I think UT would attract more recruits

Congrats on racking up a bunch of wins in the 50s, 60,s 70s and 80s when you had a hold in Texas recruiting.
Arkansas has no such recruiting hold anymore.
Arkansas has no such recruiting hold anymore.

Don't get me wrong, Arky and UT are very good jobs. I just think auburn would be easier to win at than the others.

I agree, It's definitely a bigger name school. Which in turn plays a part in recruiting

UK is death sentence, one of those schools where it is essentially impossible to win longterm.
Hey now.. OK, mostly you are correct.
We haven't had longterm success since the Bear roamed the sidelines. However, Brooks showed that you could compete at UK if you get a few solid players each year, and know how to coach. I give him credit for that.
UK actually has some decent young talent on the team. It might be a more attractive job than you would think because a good coach could make improvement immediately. 3-4 years of decent success and they could be a hot name for the next stop. It's a stretch, but possible.

He peaked at third in the West. In contrast, A&M is going to finish third in the West with a better win than Petrino ever had in season one of a new regime with almost no depth.

And yet you're still 1-3 against us in recent games

Maybe. Recruiting nationally is tougher than recruiting at home. That's why I think it's a harder job.

again, haven't had strong hold in Texas for some time and look what Petrino did. Proves if you get the right coach you can win even with lower rated recruits. Can't argue that.

Well recently they haven't according to recruiting websites. Chizik brought in top 5 classes.

It's also hard to try to keep instate talent and recruit nationally

Petrino's 10 win season came in his 3rd year, with almost exclusively his own recruits. 11 win was in his 4th, all his classes.

Like I said, good luck from here on out. You're going to need it.
