I don't consider Meyer being spelled Meyers nearly as egregious. It's only adding an s to his name which is somewhat common with certain last names. Had you spelled it Meier or Meiers, then it would have been more of what I consider a spelling mistake.
I have a last name that an s addition happens rather frequently and that doesn't bother me like the changes in the spelling I've seen.

I don't think I've heard an announcer say Mullin without the "s" all year.
