I don’t see him leaving Cincinnati this year since all the top P5 jobs have been filled. He may wind up overplaying his hand if Cinci ends up being mediocre in the Big12.

If he wants to leave for a good job next year (and he may not), FSU, Miami, and even Texas could be open (and Texas will likely remain on the table going forward).
If he wants SoCal, UCLA could be open at some point in the next few years as well.
However, if his eyes are only looking at the Midwest, Michigan State, Michigan, and Penn State are all much less attainable now. Wisconsin may be his only option for some time, and I suspect they will go with Jim Leonhard.

OSU after Ryan Day bolts for the NFL.
There’s a better than 50/50 chance that happens this year with Day heading to ChiTown.

He should stay at Cincinnati. I have tried explaining this before, so i will say it again. With Cincinnati joining the Big 12, there is now a second option for Ohio kids to go P5 without having to go to another B1G school and play against their childhood love Ohio State. I don't think people realize how big of deal that is. Ohio has some great high school football...especially in the Cin/Dayton/Cbus area. He can now go get the 3-4* recruits that don't get recruited by Ohio State, but also don't want to play against Ohio State...if that makes sense? Cincinnati has a real chance to become a year in and year out 9 to 11 win program. I think he should stay at Cincinnati until Ohio State eventually opens.

Love the fan faction that this site and board provides.

It doesn't make sense.

He's gonna screw himself by being too picky.
Hmm, maybe not. Kirby Smart waited years until his dream job opened up at Georgia. I believe he could have had his pick of jobs after any one of those championships, but he stayed put and is killing it at UGA now.
It might be similar for Fickell. Stay at Cincy, keep winning, eventually the OSU job will open up and I'm almost positive it will be his for the taking.

It’s probably the best G5 job and will soon be a P5 school. The Big 12 won’t be a massive leap either once OU and Texas leave. He’ll still have opportunity for playoffs if he’s an undefeated Big 12 champion
Considering the defections by OU and Texas, will other teams leave as well?
Will the Big 12 even be a P5 conference in the future?

The new Big 12 has 4 schools ranked in the top 12 (Cincy, OSU, Baylor, BYU) and a 5th ranked at #21 with Houston.
Even with the loss of its 2 remaining bluebloods, the Big 12 is still stronger than the ACC. The ACC is far closer to the MWC in terms of quality of play and attendance.
The ACC has 2 schools that dominate but the dropoff from there is massive. And the Big 12's new TV deal is still expected to eclipse the ACC with its antiquated LT contract.

and go where? every school left is a net drain on the bottom line of the other power 4 conferences. so again....where are they going.
Well, there has been talk of super conferences, with the Sec and Big 10 adding more teams. If so, the big 12 could go the way of the big east

He may miss the boat this year due to the awkward timing of Cincy in the playoffs and early signing day. If Ryan Day somehow gets a NFL offer, the timing may be right at that point to get the OSU job.

Florida State. Mostly in terms of revenue at this point.
Historically over the last 20 years though, it's been FSU and Clemson.

This. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if Day left for the Bears. Fickell would be OSU’s top choice to replace him.

Bama. After Saban gets #7 in next 3 years

Not at the same time, though. Clemson's rise was in conjunction with FSU's fall. There have only been a few seasons of overlap where both were good at the same time. It's been largely a one team league since FSU joined in 1992.
