Where the heck is Fickell going to get hired to?

He'd be crazy to continue coaching at cincy, but what P5 job is still open? He doesnt seem like an option for OU...

Maybe he wants to be Cincinnati’s Gary Patterson. The new Big 12 won’t be the SEC, but it will be better than the G5.

Gonna be hard for him to leave this cycle unless he shits the bed on Saturday

I think he’s perfectly happy where he is. It’s been stated several times that they really don’t want to leave Ohio. He might know Ryan Day will give the NFL a shot and he’d want the Ohio State job. That might be the only one he’d leave for honestly and he take that before they even had to ask. It’s not like he’s making terrible money at Cincinnati.

Franklin can be easily bought out under his new deal too I believe.

It will then open up a host of G5 schools to retain bigger/better coaches.

OSU after Ryan Day bolts for the NFL.

It’s probably the best G5 job and will soon be a P5 school. The Big 12 won’t be a massive leap either once OU and Texas leave. He’ll still have opportunity for playoffs if he’s an undefeated Big 12 champion

Imagine him winning it all at Cincy.
Just imagine it. Their prestige shoots way up, they start recruiting well. They become a good program. Maybe that's what he wants.

Not unheard of, but coming from their administration and sticking to it for this long has made many believers. You don't find such commitment to athletics at some P5 programs.

I second that

They will get their face beat in by GA.

Fickell’s wife wears the pants in the family. She says we are staying in Cincy.

Its wild to me that his DC from last year has a better job than he does

He's gonna screw himself by being too picky.

This is one of my favorite phrases.
It took on a whole new meaning after Butch Davis literally shat his pantaloons during a game when he was coaching UNC.

Probably not. He might not be able to repeat going undefeated but they're good enough to be at the top of the AAC until they're out of there. That's more than long enough for him to land a big job if he wants to.

Just like last year right?

So I’m thinking that Luke Fickell, while still being honorable and loyal to his team, may have drawn the short straw. He’s in the hunt so he can’t very well up and leave a la BK (not realistically in the hunt) or LR (no chance at hunt). But the big $$$ openings are getting filled fast.
Fickell (or his wife) doesn’t want to leave cold and dreary Midwest so that limits his ability to make generational wealth. Unless Ohio State comes open, I think he’s screwed himself to become the next Gary Patterson.
Being married to a football coach is a little like being married to a military spouse. (I mean no disrespect to our military families because I know the sacrifices by them are far greater than a stupid football coach). But you have to be willing to move anywhere in the country to make a better life ($$$) for your family and those opportunities only come knocking once.
Yeah there’s more to life than $$$ but at the end of the day these coaches are Alpha apex predators who want to be king of the mountain. If you aren’t, you will never hoist a trophy. Maybe Fickell believes he can do it at Cincy - and if he does good for him. But we all know that the ultimate Georgia beat down will not be good optics for a man trying to get up a mountain. He’s ultimately screwed himself - unless Ohio State falls in his lap.
