I actually like Fleck. I think he could some great things with the talent LSU pulls. He’s now turned around 2 programs from the depths of hell.

I think "we should not play the season because it's too dangerous" is an eliminating stance for a football coach.

You're OK with your football coach taking that stand?

In the middle of a pandemic, in a year where no school played a real season anyway, in a conference where your president basically already said no we won't play at all? Yeah that doesn't sound all that crazy. You make it seem like he woke up and decided to just cancel Gopher football for no reason.

I'd love Fleck. I would have been happy with him many years ago.

He's the only P5 coach I am aware of that advocated not playing at all. That's not a good look.

The most underrated and overlooked college head coach. He’s one of the best in the business, but our fans don’t like him for dumb frick reasons.

Disagree.

He's second only to Mel Tucker in terms of superiority.

WTF are you even talking about?

Fleck Press Conference on COVID

quote:

I’ll give you an instance, I’m meeting with, as we speak — and that’s why my press conference is pushed back a little bit — i’m meeting with every single kid on our football team individually. And I’m about a third of the way through our football team. And it’s interesting because I’ve asked every single one of our players four questions. I do this periodically and the last question was, ‘What do you think about the Big Ten’s decision?’

“I think that’s a very healthy question to ask student athletes because there’s a lot of people out there saying what everyone is thinking or should be thinking and there’s one narrative or one opinion. Every single person that I’ve talked to — 30 for 30, like the ESPN show — right now, 30 for 30, every player has said the Big Ten made the right decision.

Were they disappointed that they didn’t play? Sure. Everybody wants to play. We want to coach, they want to play. That’s why we’re all here. Everybody’s competitors. But at the end of the day, when you listen to the student-athletes that I talked to from our football team, the information that they relayed back to me about how they know it was a very hard choice, but inevitably at the end of the day, the right choice for them to keep them safe and healthy with too much uncertainty as Kevin Warren said.

“And so again, as we continue to move forward. We’re going to take the next right step, the next safest step possible. And I think that’s fair for how we even can control the narrative moving forward of what these last five to six months and everything has meant to college football, as we evaluate everything.”

Yeah checking with your players, conference, and doctors for the safety of your team and fans sounds like a huge pussy move.

19-20 record in the Big 10 and lost to Bowling Green this year.

I don’t get the appeal to Fleck at all. He’s all coach speak.

He agreed with the Big 10 that they made the right choice not to play.

You know who disagreed? The Big 10 as they later changed their stance and played, with no logical explanation as to what changed.

Ryan Day, Scott Frost and most, if not all, of the other Big 10 coaches vehemently disagreed and fought to play.

Not little Flecky. He was content to not play.

Should change his cheer to “Not Rock the Boat”

We saw how well macho comacho "don't check in with your players before spouting off politics" worked for Coach O, huh.

He's not a bad coach but he's a very meh hire. He does nothing for me or the majority of the fanbase. If you're floating 12 million around a year Fleck isn't even in the same stratosphere.

While I agree with this statement overall, if we're still entertaining the possibility of hiring Tucker or Napier, then Fleck should also be in the running. He has more skins on the wall than either of them.

I'm glad you read absolutely zero of the article I shared. What else should I have expected though.

He got WesternMochigan to 13-1 and had Minny at 11-2 last year.

He’s 2*-10 vs ranked teams (*he beat the #3 FCS team for a technical 3rd win)

He likely won’t play another ranked team all year.

I’m just wondering how well the “row the boat” schtick holds up when you’re not coaching scrappy underdogs anymore.

I don’t know. “Do your job” works pretty well in New England.
