No we didn’t.

We are paying Kelly monthly.

We tried to get him to take the lump sum settlement for a reduced amount.

He didn’t bite so we said you will get it over 6 years

Those are rookie numbers.
You need to get those numbers up.

Auburn is great at contracts.
We never overpay.
Sexton allows us to have a mouthguard to bite during contract negotiations.

I totally agree. But when a AD does that and a coach leaves for another program because of it, his arse will be on the chopping block.

Its a damned if you do, damned if you dont situation

If you are because it’s kiffin there’s nothing in there about 50% immediately I can tell.

It is 80% of the remaining money in monthly increments over the remainder of the contract.

Apparently there is no offset language which is…dumb. Though if I’m being honest there’s a non trivial chance that if we are firing kiffin it would be for cause thus we would owe him nothing

If someone is offering to double their contact they absolutely are. As is anyone else

Norvell isn't getting a lump sum. He'll get roughly $800k a month through 2031.

It’s a tough living but I might be able to make it by with that.

No one was doubling Brent Venables salary.

No one was doubling jimbos salary.

Norvell…..eh maaaybbee had some interest but didn’t have to go crazy with it.

What I’m saying is they need to use friggin common sense. None of these guys were Saban.

ADs hire who the Adminstation and the BIG DONORS tell them to.They can’t offer or spend that kind of money with out their consent.

Brent Venables salary.

Original contact was 6 years $43 million.

He was coming off a playoff season.

Not too far removed from USC taking Lincoln Riley from them.

Especially in your world of no guaranteed contacts, someone absolutely would have offered him a guaranteed contract over OU offering him nothing guaranteed.

Revisionist history all you want, but LSU fans would have lost their shite if Arkansas had money whipped them.

Supply and demand. The coaches have the leverage. The demand (of fans and donors) to have an annual championship level program is high. The supply of coaches perceived to be able to deliver is low.

If after Norvell went undefeated he left for Alabama because AD would not agree to a big buyout FSU fans would have been furious at the AD.

The FANS and donors are the drivers of the big buyouts. Not the ADs. I’m sure many ADs would gladly pass on or let a guy walk who demanded a big buyout. But the fans and donors demand greatness…immediately…and perpetually. When that is the market the coaches hold all the cards.

No, a lot of lsu fans were out on miles after the 2011 and 2012 season. Bama loss in the bcs title game was a back breaker. Don’t speak on this, I lived it.

Who said anything about non guaranteed contracts?

I’m saying it’s idiotic to give a contract with a 60 million buyout for 1 good season resulting in no championship.

A playoff of 12 teams (ie equivalent of making a bcs bowl in the past at a program that can achieve MUCH more)

Absolutely no one was hiring Brent venables.

You want to know how I know that?

Almost every major program that had anyone close to the hot seat fired their coach last year and absolutely zero of them targeted him.

Do you think anyone targets him now?
