I call him a trust fund kid . He inherited a really good situation at Oklahoma and he had the benefit of being in a conference that has not been all that strong overall. You are talking about a rebuild situation at LSU despite what many think. The combination of losing so much in term of talent in 2019 and the transfer portal really were major body blows to this program. Then couple that with O's mismanagement of the coordinator situation and the BLM stuff during the pandemic, you have your work cut out for any new coach.

I don't know if many accept those facts. Recovery from that may take a while.

OK. So you're saying that you'd rather have Chizik or Orgeron than Lincoln Riley?

Are you seriously using one game in a season to respond to my post?

The point was that Riley struggles pretty much every year with some unranked teams in the Big 12. The SEC schedule is much more difficult. Will he be able to handle it? Maybe, maybe not. As I said, I don't think it's as home run as others. I would still love to have him as a coach. But, he's not perfect just like no one else is.

This is a myth. We still have lots of talent. LSU is nowhere near a "rebuild" situation.

Live in your fantasy world of unrealistic delusion. You will have an offense that will be on it's third OC in 3 years. A defense that will be on its third DC in 3 years. A rb situation that is meh at best. An O line where the talent will take about another 2 years to gel and really, no LB's to speak of.

You dismiss the reality at your own disadvantage. If you think you can win with the right route trees for the receivers, you are mistaken.

Assuming, for this thread, that it's Riley...great

This all depends on the DC competency and scheme. Everyone knows this is the potential issue with Riley. But we're LOADED with talent.

a. Not true at all.

b. Even if true, not that important with a good offense. Just look how a good (not great) scheme made us all think CEH was elite. We have more talented backs than CEH.

See this is where terrible coaching and scheme come into play. Our OL is a function of bad coaching and scheme (and a QB with no pocket awareness). Again, you introduce the best scheme and offensive mind in CFB and you'll be shocked at how this all changes.

We still have a ton of talent. We just haven't had great coaching in a couple of years. Orgeron is one of the worst coaches in CFB and he turns more stuff to shite than going woke. LSU fans, especially whose who supported O, just refuse to admit how absolutely terrible he is.

How many times has LSU made the playoffs, upcoming 2021-22 included, in the 8-year history of the event?

How many seasons have we had Heisman level QB play in that timeframe?

How many great offenses have we had?

I think it’s a fair question as well, I realize we’re in the minority. Culture and QB development should be the main attributes in the new coach…..he has one of those attributes. I’m not so sure he could develop the culture here, IMO his main reason for success is the Big 12.
Not saying he’d be a bad hire, but I’m not sure he’s worth the hype. Personally I’d prefer Napier, culture and recruiting would be top notch.

Next year irrespective of coach, LSU is at best an 8-4 team with a defense that is going to get gashed. Riley won't be your answer to that. Defense is where a new coach needs to start. This weekend was an aberration. The reality was that our match ups worked to our advantage. Kentucky and Ole Miss are more indicative of our defense. And UCLA. Those three ran all over LSU and absent a good defense I don't see us winning 9-10 -11 games a season in thext 2 -3 years trying to merely outscore opponents consistently.

What do Alabama and Georgia or for that matter TAMU or Auburn have that the rest of the league does not have? Competent if not better than average defenses. A good defense will prevent you from losing close games. I think you need to look at a long term on the defense....and O line but beginning next year defense will become a more pressing issue

Where do y’all think successful coaches of big time programs came from? What makes y’all think Napier isn’t ready to be that next guy? Y’all are so short sighted it’s painful. Again, not saying LR isn’t a good hire….but assuming his style and culture are a sure thing with a monstrous contract is a huge risk. Napier wants to be here, that’s huge!
I dread the day Florida hires Napier

At the end of the day I completely trust SW though, if he hooks LR then it’s the right hire

IMO, this isn't the question when evaluating who we want to be our next coach.

For me it's not a question of me thinking that a coach can't do something. Coach numbskull won a NC for goodness sakes, so how useful is that question? It's just that I have greater confidence in other coaches and their ability to maintain a high level of quality based on their body of work. Napier *could* be the next Saban, he can be anything people want to project on to him, but that's all it is, projection.

Who were the hot names last time we had a coaching opening, Herman, Fleck, Fuente, a few others I can't remember. None of them have done anything. It's more about what the right guy will do for us, not fearing that he's going to turn someone else into a powerhouse. Those types of program-changing types are extremely rare and only come about every few hiring cycles. For me it's a question of "more likely" vs "less likely" not of can he do it or not.

The last thread you started said Coach O was definitely the man for the job so I don't know if we wanna follow your reasoning.

Right the SEC is littered with the bodies of G5 coaches that had moderate success at their respective schools before face planting

way too much unknown with Napier to be among the top 6 for this job. Much less costly to be "wrong" on Napier and have him succeed elsewhere vs. quickly realizing he's in over his head here.

I think his candidacy would be better received had he taken one of those middling jobs and had some success there. That's a little more proven success for your tProcess Lite at multiple spots

It happens everywhere. I'd love to see your favorite coaching candidate that has never struggled with a conference rival.
