Because make no mistake, next year you are going to need a coach who can outscheme other coaches when a lot of this talent heads to the NFL and LSU is in a rebuild year.

Lmao@ the fact you think these people are that forward thinking. Here's the thought process:

He has an accent
He won 3 games=GOAT
He's from Louisiana
He wouldn't kiss a man on the cheek.

That's it. That's all they need to know to crown O HC of lsu.

The main knock on O is a fallacy. They say O isn't a good x and o guy and will simply rely on hiring good coordinators. Well let's look at this. Every coach, no matter how gifted, has to rely on his coordinators for areas he has little expertise in. Is Herman a great defensive mind? No. Therefore he will need a solid DC and stay out of his way. O is a great defensive coach. He has knowledge and will work with the defense while he relies on a great OC hire to compliment his weaknesses.

So the fact his overall HC record is less than stellar is a fallacy???

Because that truly is his biggest knock. When given the keys to a program he underperformed. Even factoring in his interim HC wins he is currently 19-27. Compare that to the other candidates and tell me why O would be the better choice than jimbo, herman, fleck, kelly, etc. All coaches will have their shortcomings and flaws, but his overall HC record is atrocious and should be highly concerning.

Not necessarily "out" but I don't want to dismiss O out of hand.

People can point to his HC record all they want. His OM tenure was a debacle and he's owned up to it. Never denied it. It's all about what you learn from failure. Learning from winning is easy, it's succeeding from failure that's difficult. His brief tenure at USC showed growth.

If people think he was just handed the keys to a smooth running Ferrari at LSU, they are mistaken. There was obviously more going on behind the scenes with LSU football than everyone realized. Just compare the effort, enthusiasm, and drive between the first four games and the last three. I'm not talking about the opponents. When was the last time LSU played close to that level of passion. The first half of USM they looked like shite. Second half, different story. Can't blame it on inferior opponents d it's a fallacy to do so.

This LSU team could have tanked it and given up 3-4 weeks ago. It's also bullshite to think it's just because O is a master motivator. He and his staff are coaching their asses off. How will it turn out? Who knows. It'll be interesting. Don't count O out.

Herman may yet be the best choice. But, Hallman went 23-11 at USM with wins against Bama and FSU, on the road. He was labeled a "giant killer." We all know how that worked out for us.

O is my sentimental choice. I reserve the right to change as the rest of the season goes. Personally I like Chris Peterson.

I would like that choice too, but i doubt he is leaving Washington.

Agreed. I just don't think LSU is the place for him to prove it. He should go to another mid tier or down upper tier school and show he can run the program as head hancho over there first. I'd be more willing to take a chance on O if we didn't have some other very strong candidates.

So if we keep O as HC, i would have to assume we struck out on at least 5 other candidates. Which makes the administration look like fools.

Why fire miles if you just settle for O? Now when i say settle, i dont mean coach o will do poorly no matter what. I mean, why would you fire your HC and not have a solid plan in place to replace him. I would have a hard time believing O was their ideal candidate from day 1.

If it ends up being O, I'll jump all in and pray he proves me wrong. I just won't be rooting for him to get the job over other top candidates.

Chris Peterson.
If I could choose anyone it would be:

1:Saban
2:Meyer
3:Petersen

But he's not going anywhere. He could have had some big jobs already and turned them down because he likes the northwest. It also has something to do with his son being sick and his doctors being there as well. He's going to be in Washington for a long time, IMO.

Well then you should understand why those of us who aren't sentimental when it comes to coaches aren't sold on him. Hell, I grew up in Dallas and went to UTD. But I was born in Hammond and love LSU. Always have. And my entire family is from the Baton Rouge area and are LSU fans. I want to win long term and whether or not a coach grew up in Louisiana means nothing to me. But I get it. I know Coach O is a cajun. I know that's sentimental for some people. But letting that be a factor is not a good idea.

Fair enough. I can't argue with people about it if the man wins out.

Thanks for reading past that one sentence. Not saying he will be bad. Im saying it's a piss poor move if the admin sat down and said ok guys let's fire miles and make Orgeron our interim HC AND top coaching prospect.

Obviously we look better. Could another coach have done the same thing with our talent? I would put money on it. Just because we beat Mizzou, Ole Miss, and USM doesn't mean O is the answer long term.

Good question.

Who knows if the succession plan was/is solid. Hopefully it is. I supported Miles last year but the way this season began, it was time for him to go.

Maybe O is the choice, who knows.

I agree. I doubt Peterson is leaving Washington, at least right now.

I stuck by him until last year after the November stint. Honestly, Jimbo would probably be here right now if the administration/boosters wouldn't have fricked it up to the point the gov. And pres. Stopped it all. So the story goes at least.

I am hoping that they interviewed or spoke with several guys last year. Then, this year they spoke to those candidates again before firing miles to gauge their interest. Who knows though. All i know is that if Alleva misses on this hire his arse will be the next in the unemployment line.

Herman lost to SMU. Actually NO, Herman got his arse kicked by SMU. He sucks and has no business being mentioned as a future LSU head coach.

O got beat 27-3 to wake forest....while at ole miss. That is worse than Houston losing to smu. Let me know and I can go find about 20 more of those kind of losses.

So now O is disqualified. Thank god.

You mean the Wake team that won 11 games and went to the Orange Bowl?

What makes you think USC is an open seat? After 1 season and a tough opening schedule

Saban got beat by uab and ulm while coaching at lsu and Bama.

Those losses are 10 times worse than SMU beating a G5 Houston.

So Saban is also DQ'd.

DAMN IT WHO ARE WE GONNA HIRE THATS NEVER LOST A GAME TO A LESSER TEAM?????

few, if any. point well taken.

however, I think coach O may be uniquely qualified to be a success at LSU due to his extremely strong contacts with Louisiana high school coaches and his recruiting prowess. as long as he has strong position coaches (like now) and esp a strong DC (like now) I think he'll be successful. we have some recruiters on this staff too.

I don't see him being attractive to Tejas or Notre Dame but USC might turn to him one day.

How about that amazing wyoming loss? 14-24 at home. Those amazing wyoming cowboys with their 4-7 record and 2-6 record in conference. Allow me to laugh at your selective memory.

Not sure it will be. Just another possibility of an open spot based on performance up until now. May not happen, though. Like you said he is a 1 season coach.

So could most coaches. The issue here is when Aranda leaves or he doesn't have all this talent what does he do? I think it goes down hill quickly for him in that scenario.

Is O going to magically forget how to recruit when he's named head coach?

Lol no, but even the best recruiters will have down/rebuilding years. I'm saying if he loses Aranda and has to rebuild the talent all in the same time period he wouldn't fair as well as other candidates. I want someone i believe can weather the storm in any potential down years. O proved he wasn't good at that while at Ole Miss.
