Seriously, I want to know. Briles, Yurich, Cumbie, Gilbert, all these guys like to throw it way more than they like to run it. I saw a Kirby Smart say once that you don’t want to be one dimensional because eventually you will get stopped. We’ve been one dimensional in the past with the run but why would we trade being one dimensional with the run to being one dimensional with the pass? Why not throw it as much as you run and play to get the best players the ball? It just seems to me with the way the team is being built on the lines that we still want to have a dominating run game AND be able to throw it when we want to.

Briles and Gilbert put up great rushing numbers. The power Spread that those two run is nothing like an air raid.

Most people on this board don’t know shite about football.
I believe it comes from our history of shitty QB play. The thought is that type of offense will bring good QB play. I personally believe we need to run the same offense just concentrate on better QB recruiting and development.

You are right because if they did they would know that no one is advocating any "air raid" offense. Most of these offenses evolved years ago...

We’re not obsessed with the Air Raid, we’re very interested in a different variation/evolution of the Air Raid, such as a the Veer and Shoot or Power Spread. Both of these untilize the run more than the pass, but the passing attack concept spread the field so wide that it keeps the D honest, opens up very wide run lanes for RBs, utilizes the talent we will have regarding size and speed at WR, and mos of the routes are so horizontal or vertical that it’s a relatively simple offense for a QB to learn and if he’s put back in the gun also keeps a smaller younger guy like Brennan safe.

You realize that Oklahoma, FAU, and USF all had rushing offenses ranked higher than LSU? Hell OK State isn’t that far behind LSU.

Maybe the fact that we have not seen any form of a modern offense in a decade? That could be one reason.

What Kiffin ran at Bama (Power Spread) was pretty effective. It’s also what Meyer ran at UF and Malzhon has adjusted his at Auburn to have success. The key for Malzhon is he was running to much tempo, so once he started realizing how to control the tempo he was able to throw off opposing D’s and keep his D as rested as they needed.

this reminds me of a couple years ago when i'd post NCAA rushing stats on the rant and show how Baylor rushed for more than we did

hit em with the stats and they'd still believe a spread offense can't work

hit em with history (Florida Auburn, Auburn again, and now Bama) and they still deny those are "spreads"

since so many offensive styles have merged over the years, the generic "spread" term leads to these issues

even Mike Leach runs the ball a good bit these days

Read up son.

All spreads are not created equal and all are not passing first offenses.
