2 years?

3 years?

What if we give him the job under the condition of a 2-year performance-based contract, and if he meets criteria, he is retained and extended, and if he does not, he gives us a buyout retention and a gentleman's agreement to stay on staff as D-line coach and recruiting lead?

You can't recruit with less than a 4-year contract . Probably be hard to hire and retain assistants too.

He wants the job more than anything. He'd probably accept a 1 year deal, but that would be very stupid on LSU's part. Commitment must be shown to your HC in order to maintain superior recruiting.

Just give him a week to week contract.

He'll probably accept it considering his other head coaching offers out there...

Anything less than 5 years allows negative recruiting to be involved. If it ends up being Coach Oeaux, you do a 5 yr contract at $3.5mil per year with a very low buyout!

Oh yeah what would Coach O say to recruits if he's hired for 2 years? "Yeah son, I want you to come play for LSU, but you know, I'm only under contract for 2 years, so chances are I won't be your coach your entire college career. Yaw yaw yaw. though." It's fricking retarded. Whether you hire Coach O, Jimbo, or whoever, you never sign him to a 1-3 year deal. It gives your program no stability whatsoever.

I don't care what the length is, but he better be the lowest paid HC in the SEC and have a $0 buyout if he is hired

SO desperately determined to "give O a chance". So much that you're not even sure of his abilities. Hence the...lets "try" him with a 2 or 3 year contract. Same concept as "Les deserves to right the ship". We all see where that got us.

If this is what you are thinking of you are not committed to O being the Head Coach.

Do you people even follow college football? You can't give a coach a 2 year contract. Kills recruiting
