Matt Viator was pretty successful at McNeese. Not so much ULM. But that’s expected.
He was well liked at McNeese and left to increase his retirement money, IMO. I think if Sterlin Gilbert is successful and gets a new job at a bigger school, Viator would be back.

Was coming to post Faust. How he got the biggest job in college football at the time, just flat out amazing.

Think Jim Harbaugh coached high school, then University of San Diego, then Stanford. Of course it helps that he was a QB in the NFL.

Viator 100% left for money. what he was making at MSU was absurd, like $150k or something in total. lowest in the conference

Way back in my day when Jerry Stovall was coaching at LSU, we ran into Gerry Faust's first year at Notre Dame. I was at that game in South Bend. The Irish thought they had made a great hire from Moeller High School. Well even though they beat us that day, they were definitely wrong about Gerry Faust. Sorry fellows, just saw where someone had already pointed out Faust.

I think Darren Barbier did it going from Hahnville to Nichols. Don’t think it worked out well.
Made playoffs - then budget cuts doomed it

IIRC, John Grass went from Oxford (AL) HS to Jacksonville State to replace Clark when he left for UAB.

Really old school here; but Paul Brown went from Massillon High School to Ohio State and then on to the Cleveland Browns.
I think David Cutcliffe started in High School as well.
