Dodge went to UNT

didn't New Mexico or UNLV or Nevada get a HS coach like 4-5 years ago?

if you're including Malzhan (who only was an OC), you have to include Morris

going from HS to a QC/positional coach is super common. we can literally name thousands of guys who made that jump

i think OP meant HC/coordinator

Too many to list. I’d say about half of college coaches did high school for at least a year early on.

Yeah we’ll include Morris.

They don’t have to make a straight jump to college HC. Say well established high school HC who jumps to college and becomes college HC.

So I guess that includes Frank Wilson.

We don’t want guys that coached high school for a year or two.

So I guess it’s fairly limited for a well established high school HC to make the jump to college HC.

I think Darren Barbier did it going from Hahnville to Nichols. Don’t think it worked out well.

Off topic slightly but Doug Pederson is the only guy I can think of jumping from HS head coach to a NFL staff

Bill Clark.

106-11 at Prattville High School after taking over for a coach that went 31-25.

Won CUSA last year, made the conference championship game again this season (UAB only had 1 bowl appearance in their history before he arrived. He's now taken them to 3 in a row.)

Left out the most (in)famous example of all:

Gerry Faust, went straight from Cinncinatti Moeller HS to the most prestigious college gig of all.

It didnt work out.

Unlv hired Bishop Gorman's coach (from snoop dog's son's reality show not the one from Tate's QB1). He at least got the Fertitas to pay for a nice football complex at unlv before they fired him.

Joey King from Cartersville jumped to Coastal Carolina
Mickey Conn from Greyson jumped to be on Dabo's staff at Clemson
Jimmy Smith was the head coach at Cedar Grove left to be on Georgia State's staff
Jess Simpson jumped to GSU to Miami to the Falcons
Dell McGee was the head coach at Carver Columbus before being hired at Georgia Southern
Tee Martin coached high school a couple of years
Steve Pardue coached at Lagrange before being hired at UK
Erk Russell was the head coach at Grady High School and won a state championship
Wally Butts was a head coach at Male High School before being hired to be the head coach at UGA

Those are just a few from the state of Georgia.

Edit: Chris Weinke was the head coach at a private school for several years in Florida before being hired at UT
