Because of where he coaches, how poorly he has performed this season after allegedly having the number 1 recruiting class 3 years in a row in the Southland
Damn. I didn't know he's been coaching FCS.

No pros.
You shouldn't hire Napier. Look elsewhere. Offer Caldwell at Coastal instead.

Wins include against a SOS of 87th.
The only P-5 school they played, they lost by 20 to a 4-6 University of Texas.
All of the teams in their division of their conference have a losing record except So Alabama who is 5-5
In those wins includes a 1 point win against a 2-8 Butch Jones Arky State where it took the longest rushing play in their history or 99 yards which was the difference in the game. Jones absolutely out coached his arse that night.
But here is the kicker: their point differential against the teams below which have a combined 23-36 record against everyone else is a -2 total with their self proclaimed No 1! This is why you can’t look at record even within their own division and have to dig deeper.
Texas 4-6 lost by 20
Ga Southern 3-7 won by 8
Ga St 5-5 won by 4
So Alabama 5-5 won by 2
Arky St 2-8 won by 1
FCS Nichols St 7-4 won by 3

Yeah - Urban was a monster if you follow him like some of us did.
Here is Napier bullshite to end this bull shite argument and EVEN thought of him being a candidate:

If we can’t get Aranda then that would be a complete embarrassment. Napier would be fine I’m sure but there is risk with him.
The man turned down Auburn, Miss St and SC. Why would he be an embarrassment? No one was beating down Arandas door last year and he almost took the Nevada job before Baylor opened up last minute.
Napier has been a hotter commodity compared to Aranda so what are u talking about….

My mistake Sun Belt. I was reading his win against FCS Nichols St. they are Sun Belt. Southland just as soon be sunbelt considering facilities and competition.

BULL frickING shite. When he doesn’t land this job he will say he turned down LSU. MSU and maybe SC would be a good move and that’s about it.

He's an S tier program builder. He knows how to get everyone on his side. He's really good at recruiting because of that. He's a much better Xs and Os coach than the past two guys have been. He has been terrorizing the sun belt his entire tenure. He's a passing game guy but has a small enough ego that he likes to build his teams from the trenches out.
I said this somewhere here last night as well, but everyone saying he's a high risk hire is wrong and isn't thinking beyond "is a G5 coach". LSU under Napier will have way too much talent to for his record to be below ~.750. You can think of him as a young, mini Jimbo if you'd like. I would expect Napier LSU to be similar. Recruiting with the best of them, run first offense, and a nasty defense. His failure scenario as a head coach barring some unforeseen disaster is being Mark Richt or late Les Miles where you can tell it'll never quite be put together but he wins too much to feel good about firing. Riley might be the most fun hire, but there's really not a world where we don't get a damn good coach at this point.
I'm not going to do another post for this, but
Billy Napier is 9-1 with his only loss being to a team that is #11 in the talent composite. Liberty is a bit scary, but in general I'd be surprised if he doesn't win the conference and be 12-1 before making an exit to whatever program is hiring him.

Maybe they didn’t want to concede control over some things, but he backed out…..

None of those guys listed were proven head coaches of a major football program before they were hired to their respective schools...FACT!
That's not a strong argument for hiring an unproven guy. I'd be really happy with Napier, though.

The things I like about Napier:
He's incredibly driven.
He wants to win.
The process he uses comes straight from Saban (with some tweaks of course).
He's really good at adjusting things he sees are not working, without letting his ego overrule the situation.
He has the recipe for success and I really believe that regardless of where he ends up, he will make it happen.

He's likeable, has program humming four years into stint at ULL, learned from Saban, knows LSU's recruiting area well, offense-minded, can start in 10 days
sounds great to me. Lets roll

We will never know for sure, because it’s not going to be Napier, Aranda or Riley. Buckle up people it’s going to be CP. If I tell you a Rooster dips snuff, look under his wing for the can.

Why would we wait to announce, he'd be a homerun, just seems like we would've announced it already if it was him
