What an incredible job done by Woodward so far...

Just like the baseball hire. Names flying everywhere. All speculation. No evidence. Every “source” has been wrong! This is the best way to conduct a hire. Tight lipped. No leaks. Every once in a while maybe leaking a name to get the wolves off the trail. Absolutely phenomenal!

Hopefully you are right. But you are just speculating. It’s very possible Woodward pushed all the chips in on Riley and missed.
We truly won’t know until the hire is actually made. If it’s some C tier coach then we will know what happened. If it’s a big name then Woodward deserves all the praise for how he handled it.

The difference is baseball coaches are harder to evaluate for the average LSU fan. With football you can identify a large number of guys that are good candidates and there's more focus on the search.

Nobody thought of a 2 out of 5 CWS appearance head coach with renowned recruiting ability
Or a hall of fame coach that grew up 60 miles from campus?

It's possible but it's not very probable. Woodward doesn't really seem like the type to do something like that. All the leaks that were coming out could very well have been allowed to continue because it wasn't the correct information to start with. He might have moved on from Riley weeks ago and has a deal in place with someone else and just let the Riley rumors fly because it took attention off of his next move. Maybe he did push all the cards for one guy and now he's scrambling, but I just don't see it.

I'm really not concerned at all. Even if he did miss out on Riley, it's almost unheard of to be able to make that move. We won with Les Miles and Ed Orgeron. Woody will hire a coach that's better than those guys. We can pretty much guarantee that even if it's not the big, sexy name.

I agree with that and it's for the best that they don't. You can't have constant leaks coming out while these coaches are still trying to coach their current teams before the deals are done. It puts them in bad positions and almost makes them have to lie. I know I wouldn't want to be in that position.

Nobody was really surprised when Kim Mulkey was hired by LSU.
