Not directing this at OP but I remember earlier this season Campbell being a chump that lost to Aranda.

I've been high on Napier and Campbell since the beginning. Neither is perfect, but they both have been able to do more than less. They're also offensive coaches which I like. Each has taken a historically bad team and led their to programs to historic seasons consistently.

I really like him and think he's the complete package of a coach. He played defensive line in college, and all of his coaching jobs have been on the offensive side of the ball (offensive line coach, run game coordinator, offensive coordinator).

I don't read a lot of coaches' wikipedia pages, but his mentions several times where he's turned down interviews that would appear to be a move up. What are Campbell's career aspirations? Is he even a realistic candidate?

quote:

While at Bowling Green (as a grad assistant) Scott Pioli, then the director of player personnel for the New England Patriots, offered Campbell an interview for a job at the team, but Campbell declined.

Did he want to finish the graduate program? Were there family issues that made a move to Boston undesirable?
quote:

Reportedly Campbell passed on a chance to serve on Urban Meyer's staff at Ohio State University.

While HC of Toledo, so probably he preferred to be HC there as opposed to coordinator at OSU.
quote:

Campbell was reportedly requested for an interview for the New York Jets NFL team, however, he declined the interview

quote:

It was reported that Campbell was offered an eight-year, $68.5 million deal by the Detroit Lions for their head coaching position in 2021, but other reports said that the Lions never put an offer on the table
Both while HC at ISU.

Like I said, I don't read many coaches' wiki pages, but it just seemed like an unusual number of mentions that he turned down offers/interviews.

Maybe it’s because while playing a much stronger schedule Campbells teams produce a much better offensive and defensive in the national ranking. Having the 3rd ranked D at this point of the season is a fairly significant positive comparison. Coaching a team to a win over a top 10 team is also a pretty good plus as far as comparisons are concerned.

I know some people don’t care about the competition a coach has to play, but I’m not one of those people.

My only concern with Campbell is the offense.

Matt Campbell has already proved it. What are you talking about? You may have forgotten but Nick Saban basically went 6-6 his first 3 years at Michigan State and then went 9-2 his fourth year and got hired by LSU. Riley and Kiffin are good, but will they make LSU a dynasty? Probably not. You’ll find the next great head coach of the decade at a lower tier program. You don’t find the next Nick Saban by hiring has beens and and guys who have been hyped up because they are brilliant offensive minds.

I'm not sure what you mean here.

Campbell has been an offensive coach his entire career. If you're concerned about his offense, then you probably shouldn't hire him.

Watching OSU v ISU I saw a lot of Les Miles offensively , and how he has won in the Big 12 is impressive, considering it's a shoot-out conference.

Campbell would be an A+ hire

Correct.

Can recruit in the hinterlands, can get his team to punch above their weight, develops talent well and runs a clean program.

That's pretty much a "checks all boxes" type hire.

I hope that we aren’t hearing about him because he’s the real candidate.

OSU v ISU is always a ball control contest. It’s rarely more than a 3 or 7 point game either direction.

Watch the bowl game against Oregon if you want to see something more open. ISU can sling it when needed.
