If we're going to look at coaches who got fired at Power 5 programs we ought to look at Sonny Dykes at SMU before Herman.

Jeff Grimes is Aranda OC and has been one of the best in the country the last 2 years and a Broyles Award finalist. Herman could come on as like QB Coach and PGC or something

I think Herman is a good choice if we are unable to get 1 of the 3 top candidates.

The thing that killed him at UT is that he couldn't beat Oklahoma. As LSU fans, we are used to getting our arse kicked by Bama, so he would work fine here.

Teams never got blown out, tended to upset others. Probably learned from his UT time.

He left behind mediocre talent for Sark.
He didn't recruit as well as you think.
He didn't develop players.
He threw his coaches under the buss.
His offense scheme was not good and got figured out quick.
He didn't adapt.
He was pretty bad with the media.
He always thought he was the smartest guy in the room.
He seemed to have low character.

And he cried to much.

Thats a pass from me dog.

Not as HC. If he comes as OC and Aranda is HC......I can dig that.

Lots of fail in this post.

Herman took over at UT after 3 consecutive losing seasons under Charlie Strong. He then averaged 8 wins per year during his tenure.

During his 3 full year recruiting classes at UT, he had top 3 recruiting classes in 2 of those 3 seasons.

Sark walked into a much better situation than Herman and getting worse results.

Oh, and when at UH, Herman was 6-0 against top 25 teams…at UH.

He drastically improved each team at every stop that he’s made - Iowa State, Ohio State, Houston, and Texas. The mark of a very good coach.

Herman is a good coach. Texas is a bad program.

Charlie Strong was 16-21 (0.432) at Texas and 5-7 his last year.
Herman went 32-18 (0.640) and won 4 straight bowl games.
Herman is replaced by Sarkisian who is currently 4-3 (0.571)

The optics are not right for LSU to hire him, but I still think Herman is a hell of a football coach. I also think he would have been incredibly successful here if LSU had gotten him the first time.

Yeah just think about it. I’m sure he learned from his previous failures. You can pay him less and then higher elite coordinators. Heck I bet we could even teach him to talk like us.

This mentality cracks me up. Since when is winning 8 games per year at a dumpster fire of a program a failure? Maybe not meeting the unrealistic expectations of meddling UT boosters. But, far from a failure.

With Herman’s “failed” career winning percentage of .711, he would be the winningest coach LSU has hired since at least Paul Dietzel.

No doubt. Because of him, no coach will ever chose Texas over LSU again.

Yup, by far. I wouldn't mind Herman. But you should also note that the coach he would displace with the winningest pre LSU resume is Curly.

Pay him less and hire elite coordinators? Hmmm, I swear I’ve heard this before. Any other previous coaching candidates from our past we want to recycle back to?

So, Herman wasn’t good enough for Texas, but he’s good enough for LSU? Christ, what is wrong with you people?

Texas isn't as good as LSU.

It's simple really.
