Young, upcoming coach. Players love him. Great turnaround of the defense. Feels like he could have that Lanning, Day magic and have lots of success making the jump to HC. We could do worse....

We could also do better…. I’d rather that.

Just stop. LSU needs a homerun. While nobody is ever a "sure" thing they need as sure possible of a homerun as they can get right now. I don't want to settle for a tier 3 guy. I want the guy highest on the list because he's probably high on that list for many reasons.

I thought the hire after canning O would be the most important ever for the program I was wrong. It's this one. LSU has sat in a decade of mediocrity with a plethora of resources and money for the right fit to do great here. 1 good season out of 10 is not cutting it. This program is sharing a spot with teams like Arkansas right now. Let that sink in.

Thank you Joe Burrow for 19 because if it wasn't for him we'd be considered a bottom half SEC team the past decade. We need a Jay Johnson-like hire. The baseball guys know their stuff. Football...not so much and it has all the resources in the world to succeed. Since just throwing names Jay Johnson can come coach football and it probably would have better results than we've seen 9 of 10 seasons.

Baker would definitely benefit from working under a defensive minded HC

Baker is a one trick pony. If you figure out how to beat his blitz packages and he is done.

Been waiting for this to come up. He'll probably get the Tulane job if Sumrall leaves. For us he's a Better fall-back than Frank Wilson, IMHO. Real Louisiana connections, the right age, successful at two SEC schools as a DC. Looks better on paper than you might think.

What’s with all this home run shite,it ain’t going to happen.LSU isn’t GODs gift to coaching especially the way fans turn on them after the 1st loss.We had our home run with BK and how did that turn out.Let them hire the coach and support him ,I know that’s a lot to ask of Tiger fans.

Probably not. Tulane can...and has done better in the last two head coaching hires.

Give me another head coach from a smaller conference who is looking to succeed and get a power job.

I would be pissed if Tulane hired Baker as a head coaching.

There is no such thing

Brian Kelly was considered a "Homerun" by everyone in the sport

Why? His D isn’t good.

We thought he brought the D back but he hasn’t stopped any offense worth a shite. Anyone suggesting him for HC or even to be a mandatory retainee is fricking dumb

This is not a plea for Baker so don’t misunderstand.

But what do you define as a “home run”?

A home run hire as head coach may not be a big name that everyone is clamoring for.

It may take a couple years to know if the new coach is a home run or not.

Saban was not considered a home run when he was hired

Dabo and Kirby were bit necessarily home runs at the time they were hired

Not sure Ohio State thought Day was a home run when he was hired

Hell, people may try to rewrite history but Jay Johnson wasn’t considered a home run hire either

Point is name recognition and fan fantasy doesn’t mean home run.

Be prepared for an infield single or possibly a sac bunt.

So you want a retread?

Why can’t Baker be high on the list if he has great head coaching traits? We need someone who is younger and understands the new world of college football. Not some older guy who hates and doesn’t understand NIL and the portal and things like that.

Quick question: was Kirby Smart a homerun hire for Georgia when that happened? Because Baker’s resume is not that much different than his other than coaching for Saban.

Love Blake baker, but he really needs to focus on how to stop a running QB before being a head coach.

Hope we keep him on the staff though

Sumrall is Blake Baker with head coaching success. Why would you hire Bsker when you could just get Sumrall

Who says he does??? How would you know if he does or doesn't? What are those traits anyway?

Would you think someone with those great head coaching traits could scheme against a running QB? I mean, this isn't his first year here as the DC and/or facing a running QB for the first time.

Bet Ohio State (best job in the country) is pretty glad they didn't listen to you right now when they promoted an OC to HC

The thing is - we don’t know how Blake Baker would run the entire program. He does check a lot of boxes
