If I had to guess I would say Woodward doesn't want to hire Aranda because he wants to put his own stamp on the program. Aranda is a tie to the past TWO regimes. I'm not saying that is a good reason to discount him as a candidate for LSU's HC, but I would not be shocked if that is Woodward's mindset.
The caveat may be that the guys putting up the money may feel a bit differently. Pre-2019 Aranda's defenses routinely kept LSU afloat while the offense constantly struggled to get their head above water. After Aranda left LSU's defense took one of the biggest nose-dives in the country (though I would say that is MUCH more a result of Orgeron deciding to run "his" defense as opposed to Aranda simply not being there)
If there is not a "big name" who will take the job then anyone you hire is going to come with some degree of risk and uncertainty. For those involved with LSU Aranda probably represents the least amount of uncertainty
