I don’t believe the whole Riley story. He is the face of Oklahoma football right now. He’s on top of the Oklahoma world. If there is any thinking going on it’s a ploy to tap the Okie bank.

Truth be told, I am all but willing to let this recruiting class fall apart to land Lincoln Riley. Can you imagine the top talent that would want to hit the transfer portal if Lincoln Riley were running the LSU Tigers?

OU just flipped a WR recruit from Oregon and is recruiting during the bye week. They will be at several games in person. Recruiting and winning the Big 12 is the focus of Lincoln and the OU program.
Edit: TBL is FOS. Every time I read his posts, I view it as satire. Every board has fake insiders. There's a guy named Grimlock in the OU world. He's wrong 99% of the time but he still has his lackeys.
So you're telling me that we offered Riley a 50% raise, and not only is he not interested at all, but he also won't make OU give him a comparable raise to stay? I don't care what industry you're in, you don't just turn down a 50% raise to do the same job in a different location without making your current employer sweeten the pot.

I don’t see a coach whose team is in the playoffs and has a chance to win a NC agreeing to become another school’s coach.
First, he’d be widely criticized for causing that distraction. He’d lose his credibility completely, with his players, administration, fans. Assuming in this case IF Oklahoma and LSU were willing to let him coach the playoffs, not withstanding my prior credibility statement, he’ll be destroyed if he failed to win the title. He’ll be blamed for causing the distraction that may have been what kept his team from winning it - even if everyone knows he’s not likely beating UGA or Bama.
This isn’t like leaving a low P5 or G5 school before its bowl game where you’re moving on for more money AND a chance to win a NC. That people understand and won’t begrudge you. But how do you tell a room of kids to whom you’ve sold a chance at winning a NC that you’re leaving for a better opportunity WHEN THEY’RE IN THE PLAYOFFS?! You’re the money chaser now (hey, every man for himself, right?), and your rep takes a huge hit across the board. Honestly, as an LSU fan that’d leave me with doubts about the guy’s ability to move forward from that.
Let’s say somehow it is kept under the rug, so to speak. Well Jan 1 is here, and LSU hasn’t named a coach. Kirby ain’t leaving UGA. Saban ain’t leaving Bama. Let’s say OU and Mich St, or Cincinnati is the 4th team. It’s gonna be widely known that LSU is waiting on the coach at OU, MSU or Cincy. And the two it ain’t are gonna let it be known. Your cover is blown. Distraction city.
AND let’s say Riley still DGAF. OU is in the title game. Now not only have you lost early signing period but you have only 2-3 weeks before the late period. And I’m sorry, but it can’t be overestimated how debilitating that it would be for a new coach coming in to a school that already has numbers and talent issues (NFL defections, transfers, etc) to lose an entire class, having to fill in with less talented players just to field a full squad.
So unless LSU has an understanding with Riley or other coach still in the playoff hunt that if they don’t make the playoffs they’ll resign and start at LSU early December, AND you have a backup candidate you can immediately hire if your #1 is in the playoffs, I see no path for a hiring any later than the Monday post conference championship games.

He has to be in the portal for teams to start contacting him (legitimately) and he needs to figure out where he's going so he can enroll ASAP. If he's going to a bowl team and he enrolls in December, he can participate in bowl practice and the entire spring. It'll give him a major headstart in winning the starting job.
