Mullen has averaged the #26 ranked recruiting class over the last five years at State. What do you guys think he would average at Tennessee?

A fricking invalid can bring in top 5 recruiting classes at Tennessee.

It really rubs you wrong that Mullen was adamantly not interested in the UF job not once but twice, doesn't it?

This whole thing is a win/win for the coach. Either way, he is getting a great pay raise out of all of this.

I'd hold out for a bigger job if I were Mullen. Expectations are too high at Tennessee.

According to Neuheisel on Full Ride on SXM 84 a few weeks ago, Stricklin had his fill of Mullen, and that's why Mullen would never be a legit candidate at Florida.

Which "bigger" programs are seriously pursuing Mullen now or are likely to be doing so soon?

UT's expectations would be for Mullen to take the program to the level of competing very well vs other top SEC programs and in it's share of SEC CGs reasonably soon. Those are not unrealistic expectations.

Mullen is 45 and has been at MSU for a decade. He has maxed out there. The timing is right. His credentials are solid and translate very well to the UT job. Minimal learning curve and adjustment. The fit and risk vs upside are very good for both sides.

UT is not a major rebuild now. UT has a good roster and a good 2018 recruiting class he could hold together and enhance. Mullen and Guarantano are a good match. In-state HS talent is great going forward. Shoop, Grantham and Steele are solid options as DC.

Mullen could hit the ground running at UT next week.

I think it's mostly a matter of both sides reaching agreeable terms, including assistant, shadow and support staff.

And yet he is poised to have his best year yet next year.

Mullen will be the coach at State next year. The new contract is already done.

Perhaps, but it's not likely to include an SEC CG appearance.

We'll find out soon enough.

I would be very surprised if Mullen would consider leaving MSU for UT, and even more surprised if he would actually meet with them before his season is over, which won't be till January.

If Currie waits that long, he's an idiot.

If he is going to do it, next year is the year at State.

Yes we will... that's the million dollar question, is Mullen worth 6 million plus to TN?

He isn't. Volquest is wrong.

Why would he not?

State has way better facilities (Nope) and he has Mississippi to himself in recruiting for the foreseeable future? And the best team he's ever fielded coming back next year with continually improving incoming talent (so...fan expectations will be unusually high)

He's making 5 mil a year and about to get a raise. And as hot as his name is now, it's going to be that much hotter after next season. (Tennessee can pay)

Honestly, there are a lot of reasons for him to stay and very few for him to leave.

Mullen is a great coach. I guess it's small step upward. I would think Mississippi St can recruit better than Tennessee.

Yes, he's an excellent coach with solid credentials, a great fit at UT.

UT is a BIG step upward.

Lyle "Butch" Jones (aka Sgt Carter, aka purple-faced lesbian hedgehog) recruited arguably better at UT than Mullen at MSU. Let that sink in.

Mullen could recruit much better at UT than at MSU and much better than Butch did at UT.

If there is anything I learned from the LSU coaching search debacle, it's that leaks like this don't fricking help.

I love this time of year, and not because of all of the amazing food I’ll be eating Thursday. And Friday.....

ETA: Good job on the fake flight plan, also.
