Just got the tweet from local papers. Good for him.

He's a pretty decent recruiter and should be able to recruit well there.

I can't stand BYU but he's a good guy, good coach and should do well for UVA.

Great hire. Amazing that UVA hired a much better HC than USC and Mizzou.

The ACC cleaned up this coaching carousel. Fisher stays at FSU, Miami hires Richt, VT hires Fuente and UVA hires Bronco Mendenhall.

Great hire.

I would argue it's a better hire. Not that Bronco is a better coach but that he had a stable job whereas Richt was out of a job and took the open position at his alma mater. That was a layup hire for Miami while UVA had to sell the dream for Bronco to voluntarily leave his job of 11 years.

Mendenhall has never had a losing season.
He's had 5 double digit seasons, working on 6.

What better credentials do you expect?

I don't think BYU pays big bucks for coaches.

Rock solid hire. Like most of you, I never thought he would leave BYU except in a pine box or with a pink slip.

As mentioned, I think my reaction was based on the idea that Richt was a viable candidate. I would have preferred Richt, but short of that I think Mendenhall may do great and ranks up there with the best hires thus far. I'm very happy with it and probably would be ecstatic save the Richt disappointment. The administration should be commended here and I'm actually looking forward to having a competently coached team next year. No matter what, anything is better than London's putrid coaching and program management.

Helton might be the real deal, and he's only 42. USC could get 8+ years out of him before he was ready take his talents to the NFL.

Mendenhall is a good hire for UVA. He's a good coach, a good recruiter and he'll almost certainly run a clean program.

UVA could be a lot more than it has been. Mendenhall might not be the guy to get them where they could be, but he'll be a coach that makes them better than they have been.

That is one hell of a hire for Virginia. Best hire of the off season so far. Impressive, Virginia. Most impressive.

This was a great hire for UVA. Like many of you I was surprised that he would leave BYU, but BYU is not the dream job for all Mormons. I think he faced too many restrictions at BYU in getting the best available athletes.
